Hi,
One other thought, if the oil has been drained from the sump, not sure why the P.O. has done that ?, but these engine wont self prime the oil system if the pump have become empty.
The arguably best way is to un bolt the base of the oil pump, remove the gears and pack with vasoline ( best stuff as break down in the oil to nothing, un-like grease ) Fill the oil filter as high as you can, remove a valve cover, remove plugs and spin over until oil light goes off and oil can just be seen coming out between the rockers, should be a lot so may have to look carefully. These engines run a low pressure but high volume system. I have an adaptor to spin the oil pump over with the dizzy out using an electric drill to get pressure, but been round these great engines for years.
Cheers John
