Anyone have any luck fixing one that has these symptoms? When connected to a 9v battery or installed in the car, the pendulum on the clock operates. But the hands don't move. I can move the hands with the set cable but otherwise they are still.

I have read the pdf posted by Greg that goes into detail on how to fix these clocks but his fixes are for an electrical problem where the pendulum doesn't move. My pendulum moves OK but hands don't.

And at the moment I don't want to add an oil presure gage in it's place.

My guess would be cleaning and oiling the gears. But I can't provide any specifics, someone did mine for me.

Hi Nick,

Have a read of this PDF, one way round the problem, the other is to throw the clock away and install a oil pressure gauge !

There is a company that will change the internals to solid state so that the clock will work and keep time.

Sounds like the clock is TU not just a weak pendulum like the link fixes. Since you have nothing to lose I'd clean and lube the insides. Not sure how I'd do it probably the same way a watch repairer does. I'd search the web to see if their secrets are revealed. 2nd to that, there must be plenty of clocks out there that have weak pendulums/dirty contacts (or even working ones that could be had when people put in their oil pressure/worry gauges.

Well, I got it running with by squirting some electronic cleaner in the gears. But then I found the second hand lose so I tightened it and pressed it back on with a bit of force. After that the clock never ran again. One should leave well enough alone. I took it apart and found one of the gears was lose on its shaft. I think the thing has had it.

For a paltry $4.00 or so, trot on down to Walmart and get a stick-on digital clock in the automotive section of the store. Mount it in between the switches in the middle of the dash. In place of the clock, install your choice of gauge. Oil pressure, cylinder head temperature, vacuum gauge, or even a picture of your wife, we'll leave that up to you.

Sounds like the clock is truly TU. I would look for on eBay, none there at the moment except for an exorbitant $80+ dollars. Better yet you should be able to get one from an auto wreckers or some one who is parting the car for next to nothing. Post a request in the parts section. There must be lots of people that have one lying around. Mine just keeps on ticking reliably and is an important item in the cockpit as I haven't worn a watch since I left IBM in 1980. Digitals just don't cut it in 1980 although it's fine in the'91 Integra.

I decided to stay with the clock and not convert to oil press. Scored one ebay for US$20. The guy said it runs. We'll see.
