strut brace

Postby jrich4411 » 04 Mar 2014 23:51

I've spent many hours searching these forums about strut braces. The general consensus is that they help our cars. I've seen several examples of strut braces pictured - some very nice work. What I can't find is a source. Does anyone know of any suppliers?

Hi,

I am sure that my strut brace made a difference on my DHC, it was made by a friend and fellow TR7 V8 owner in a very small batch a few years ago. It is not exactly light and made out of medical grade stainless steel, but IMHO effective,

Woody does a very good looking brace -

And Ted at T.S.I. has a very well engineered brace -

Have also seen ' universal ' braces fitted to our cars with a bit of work.

Cheers John

Sadly they don't do them anymore.
At least they are not listed on their site/catalogue

We had another company in Oz made them, but I can't remember who it was at the moment.

This old timers disease is a real bugger with the memory.

Does anyone do a brace that will work on a stock FI car?

Or, fits on a TR7 with the stock air cleaner assembly?

If I get irritated enough, I may just have to build my own. Then painting it in John Deere green, you'll probably make fun of it.

You can add me to the list of folks that want one.

Beans Aussie sourced ones are very nice but no longer available. I did find a very flimsy one on a scrap car so I may have to use that as a pattern to make a decent one.

I think the Whiteline did.
Will find out somewhere in the future as I will use the brace from 't Kreng for the '76 FHC.
And that car will get a standard air filter box, so patience please[:D].

We have a Whiteline strut brace on our 7 which I purchased from Demon Tweeks about four years ago,and they told me it was the last one available,we have K&N air filters on the 7 but I think it probably will fit with the standard air box.
We have the same strut brace as John 215 on the V8 made by the same chap although his name escapes me for the moment.
If you do a search on here you could get in touch with him as I think he was thinking about making one for the four pot 7.

I made mine out of a piece of hollow bar. It definitely makes a difference.

Thanks for all the info! Looks like I will be getting one of Ted's braces. I sent him a message to about the triangular version - it appears that in order to attach it to the firewall I would need to remove the fresh air plenum. That also appears to be the case with Woody's version. As soon as I have that answer, I will be placing my order.
I will post pics after installation, of course!
