Wheel lug adapters

Postby nick » 20 Jan 2014 20:34

Scored 5 G.W. Grace Inc. wheels built in 1978. Can't find much about them since they quit making wheels a long time ago. They are marked "Meets SFI spec 1-A5." Whatever that means.

They have a 100mm bolt pattern so included where some interesting lug adapters. They screw on to the existing lug in a non-concentric fashion so that they convert the 95.2mm to 100mm.

Has anyone seen these before? Any problems when balancing the wheels?

You can see the holes on the adapters are off center. So you turn them until the hole is closest to the hub to make the pattern larger to fit the W.G Grace wheels.

I had a set of mags (real mags not aluminum alloys) like that for my '71 Javelin. They would then fit Chev, Ford, Chrysler set ups. never did get around to fitting them so can't give any feed back.[:(]

The way these work is once the adapter is fitted the wheel is installed. The wheel lug hole size is the same as the adapter. Next a washer is fitted and then the lug nut. Unfortunately I'm a few short on the washers and can't get the car on the road until I find some proper ones. These are fairly thick but not much wider than the lug nut. I'm afraid they will not be easy to source.

I found out that these are Appliance aluminum wheels made by G. W. Grace. They were made in the US and popular in the late '70s. The lug adapters worked out well. I drove the car up to 75 mph and there was a perceptible vibration at 65-70 but nothing more than I have in my 4Runner and slightly less than in the DHC so I am quite satisfied.
