Spiders

Postby FI Spyder » 10 Jan 2014 17:31

The Spider was meant for the US (N/A?) market. We know some were sold in France as a Special Edition without the Spider graphics and the Birmingham7 has a RH drive one the was destined for/came from South Africa. I saw a previous photo on this site with another RH Spider beside his at some gathering. Was this other one a RH conversion or were there more RH drive ones made? For what markets? How many?

SPIDERS.. as far as I am aware spiders were all LHD... simons/ Birmingham7 was a LHD... mine the other one at the gathering was also LHD.
both now RHD.
there is a picture of another spider in the uk ... this still a LHD, in the David Knowles book on tr7... but I have never seen it and I believe there may have been another one, in Britain that has now gone to France.
there was another in South Africa, but I don't recall what side the wheel was on.

Simons, I believe was a works car. and has always been in Britain.
mine was exported to USA. returned to Britain. and now in Australia.

can you add anything simon?

I really don't mean to offend anyone here, but technically it's not a Spider if it's a TR8 right?

Not unless it came from the factory that way (as a test car).

mine was the V8 ed one which was in the uk.... now in oz.

The one which went to France.. I believe was own by a Richard connew!

18 months ago another low mileage one appear in a collect in Belgium... I think.

my is badged as a TR8... but at best its a TR7 v8ed spider..

There is/was a genuine TR8 spider... thinking that people were may be being confused with mine I made some enquiries..... this is what I was told..

<i><b> Hi Dick,

Thanks for your e-mail re the TR8 Spider. It was returned from the USA in 1995 and unfortunately the owner did not realise what it was. He had it resprayed in Burgundy and converted to manual RHD with leather interior. I have the Heritage certificate to confirm this, but unfortunately have lost track of the current owner.
