Billing 2014 National Rally 18th - 20th July.

Postby Triton7 » 07 Jan 2014 18:21

All

Thanks to all of those who attended last years national at Billing and made it such a memorable weekend.

This years national will be held the weekend of the 18th - 20th July.

The first weekend of July is the Le Mans Classic Weekend and the second weekend Billing is fully booked by the Vauxhall Bedford Owners Association.

We will be on the same field as last year, Teal Meadow.

This year we are very pleased to be joined by both the Triumph Dolomite and Rover SD1 clubs.

Our cars share heritage, most notably the Dolomite Sprint and the TR7 Sprint and the TR8 with the Rover SD1 3500.

There will be the usual events.

How I top last years road run I am not sure but the map has already been out.

The fiendish quiz will tease the grey cells.

The bar will in place again and yes there will be more of THAT cider.

There will be music and lights for those in the marquee.

The informal concourse will give everyone the opportunity to really appreciate and enjoy the Dolomites, TRs and SD1s on show.

There will be the legendary raffle and finally trophy ceremony.

More details will follow.

We look forward to seeing you all at Billing the weekend of the 18th - 20th July.

Thanks

Simon

Simon,

Excellent work again, another point to add is the first weekend would also clash with the Silverstone F1 this would cause additional costs especially if anyone was looking at booking the premier Inn.

Hi Stevie,

Wont be the same without you mate [:(], how about Harrogate TR Reg International on 8 - 11th Aug and a couple of hundred miles closer ? Could have a un-official TRDC club area like we did a few years ago !

Sounds great having the Dolly and SD1 boys and girls there, always fancied an SD1 and ' grew up ' working on them.

Cheers John

My Grand-dad had two Dolomite HLs so I have always had a soft spot for them and as for the SD1, they are legendary, could never afford one as a young chap, the closest I got was a Rover 820se, which was a great car.

So looking forward to seeing them both at the national, they definitely add a new dimension to the weekend.

Stevie hope you can make it, as it is always good to see you.

I bought a 1984 2600se auto in 1990 as a stop gap car when my daily driver a persian aqua DHC registration HAW444V was having new front wings and sills. Paid £700 for it of my Manager and sold it 2-3 months later for about £1100. Nice little earner. It had self levelling rear suspension, was that an option?

Hi John,

2 and 2.3 litre had standard springs and shock absorbers, the 2.6 and 3.5 had the Nivomat self levering units, these done away with the springs, adjustments only took place as you drove along as used the up and down movement is used to pump fluid inside the unit to level the car. Volvo and other manufactures used the system too.

Unipart did produce a kit to fit standard suspension onto cars though as new units were bl88dy expensive and a nice idea but not 100% reliable.

My brother had a series 1 3.5 Vaden Plas, was fully loaded A/C, cruise, sunroof etc. but none of it worked !

Cheers John

I had a Dolomite 1500 for a while, and also a SD1 3500 VDP that yielded parts for the TR7V8 so definitely in!

The problem is which TR7?

Brought the Java green '76 TR7 FHC to last years TRDC, and the '80 TR7V8 DHC to last years TRR; and this year the '77 TR7V8 FHC rally car will likely go to Harrogate. Seems odds-on that this years TRDC I'll bring the red '76 TR7 FHC as it will be finished in the next couple of weeks. Might even have the period caravan by then as well.

Cheers Paul,

1976 TR7 2.0 FHC, ACG 3115 - Java Green (on the road)
1976 TR7 2.0 FHC, ACG 2367 - Carmine Red (on the road)
1980 TR7V8 3.9 DHC, Orient Blue (on the road)
1977 TR7V8 4.0 FHC rally car, ACG 35005 - Tahiti Blue (complete, no MOT)
