Anyone experimented with other seats, more comfort, support etc?

Try overhauling the seats in the thing, TR7 seats, in good condition are the most comfortable I have sat in, & as supportive as anything short of the Repco Brabham seat, which was molded to my butt.

I think some have used Miata seats. Do a search along those lines. Seems like there where pictures as well

I agree with Hasbeen. Worked fine for my 3,000+ miles San Diego trip in 2011. In my Integra I have to have a rolled up towel for lumbar support. It's been 23 years since I've done any long distance driving in the Toyota so can't say.

I had used MR 2 seats for a bit. They were too tall for me. I have had my TR7 seats rebuilt by a professional to my design. Actually, I pretty much stole the idea from "Beans" on this forum, without coloured piping, and perforated center material and head-rest. An extremely well fitting seat. Well worth the cost.

I found the new old stock seat diaphragms were beautifully comfortable, but did not last too long. A bad habit of old rubber.

I had my seats rebuilt by a good auto trimmer. He used webbing, & they were great for about a year or so. Then the webbing started to stretch a little, changing the seat profile, causing some of the frame to be a little intrusive.

This was sort of fixed, then someone in the UK had new diaphragms made. Another owner had bought them, & was very happy. After trying his seats, I immediately ordered new diaphragms for mine.

If you have not sat in a TR7 seat, with a good diaphragm in it, you won't believe how good they are until you do. They leave the seats in my S2000 for dead, & they are so highly regarded, they are often stolen.

This is what mt diaphragms looked like (originals). I replaced them in 2006/2007 before they were no longer available. Hope the replacements are the same.

I have Hyundai Tiburon seats in mine. But only as a temporary measure until I get the originals re-done. The original seats are by far the most comfortable seat I have ever sat in.

Hi Steve,

MGF / TF seats can be made to fit with a little cutting and welding, BUT everyone I have sat in, you tend to high.

When re-trimmed the seats in the DHC with leather, I padded out with some extra foam, and IHMO are some the most comfortable seats you will find in a old sports car

Having done almost 3000 kilometres in 4 days recently with my DHC,
I can only agree with the general consensus that the original seats are very comfortable indeed.
They might have a bit more sideways support when you do some spirited driving on the twisty bits,
but the lack of that is mainly caused by the fact that mine are leather.

I am resurrecting this thread to post a possible retrofit for our cars.
Many of you purist just cover your eyes and go on about your business (nothing happening here).

I am working with Rick Patton, the same famed TR6 Rick Patton that if you have a 6 in the US your are probably aware.
He has designed and manufactured very "nifty " adapter plates for the use of Miata seats in the TR6.

Hopefully he will be able to do the same in our Wedges. This will make the adapting of these seats to our cars very easy and straight forward.

Looks like a lot of work for something that won't add much to the driving experience [:p]
It can be done in a more user friendly way, but don't ask me what exactly was involved.
(<i>It took a bit of faffing about, great assistance from Mr F, an angle grinder with both grinding and slitting discs, a welding machine, two TR7 seat runners from Robsport, coffee, bacon sandwiches and lots of swearing</i> [:D])

The only other seat I would think of fitting would be the Honda S2000 seats. They are low enough, & very supportive. Not quite as comfortable as an original seat in good condition, but work well. I was not impressed with the MX5 seats I've tried, & can't remember the seats in MR2s, so must not have been impressed either by good or bad thoughts. Perhaps this means they just felt right, so I did not notice them.

The S2000 seats are often stolen in the US, so people must want them.

Seating is a personal thing.
Everybody's body is different.
I personally think the Wedge seat is adequate but find the Miata seats fit better
