Wiring Help

Postby RJS » 24 Nov 2013 12:51

Hello,

I have a factory TR8.

I had the steering wheel off to work on the turn signal stalk to fix and issue with bright / dim switch. Once I was done I zip tied up the wiring.

After fixing the turn signal issue and feeling very pleased with myself, I took a drive to the grocery store. When pulling into a parking space, the power steering suddenly felt very stiff. I only had a few more feet to go, so I manhandled it to get into the parking spot. As I turned it the last bit, the car died.

Once I looked under the dash, I saw that the steering shaft had caught the wiring and cut or pulled several wires apart.

I figured out most of the wires and car is running again. I have 3 wires left, and I think 2 go to the radio. There is one green wire with a white stripe that I cannot figure out. It comes out of the metal box in the picture and it has an inline fuse. I cannot see the other end of this wire. What does this box do, and where does the green/white wire go?

Any ideas?

I have a 79, two 80's and two 81 TR8's and I've never seen a box like that on any of them. It has to be after market and I have no idea what it could control. Do you have any type of anti theft on your car? Green with white controls the fuel pump on my 79.

TR8

PS sorry, it white with green for the fuel pump.

A mystery.

Must be left over from something a previous owner had on it. No security system that I know of.

When I have some free time I will trace a few of the wires and see where they go, and maybe I can figure out it’s purpose.

Thanks,
Rob

I am sure its an after market item, my guess is some kind of immobiliser or alarm by the number of wires.
