indicators

Postby camaroneil » 26 Oct 2013 13:15

guys,
the indicators don't flash,
but they work fine via the hazard switch,
the earths were crappy so i cleaned them all up and still nothing,
the offside flashes every couple of seconds when they feel like it,
seems to me earth somewhere else,
but why do they flash fine using the hazard switch,
cheers,
neil

Might be the flasher relay, Neil. There is a separate relay for the normal indicator function, & one for the 4 way hazard flasher function.

The normal left or right relay is located under the dash on the drivers side, if you have the original unit in there it is a small rectangular silver (metal) item, with two connectors arranged in an L shape. It is mechanical in operation (it works rather like a set of points) rather than electronic - it can be replaced with a modern electronic item although you usually have to add an earth wire.

The hazard flasher relay is in the fuse box area.

Or, it could be the indicator stalk at the steering wheel, the connectors in there get crappy or just plain worn.

right,
it has an 8FL for the direction and 9FL for the hazard,
i put the 9FL on the direction and they work fine,
put the 8FL on the hazard and they flash crazy quick,
so, all i need is another 9FL and everyones happy,
cheers,
neil
