How heavy is a TR7 engine? I have the chance of one locally - but am wondering how I could collect.

Don't know the weight but it's heavy. When I pickup up my engine/trans that Ron gave me, I used his engine crane to put it in a friends little Toyota truck and mine at the other end to lift it off. With out the transmission I still don't see it any other way. Maybe I'm just weak.

My memory is a little fuzzy on this, but. I seem to think the LT77 weighs about 85 lbs and the engine in the vicinity of 325 lbs.

Its a two man lift. When I collected one with a mate we thought someone had bolted it to the ground!! Its not a problem so long as you expect it.
I would suggest a flat load bed (like a van or estate) so you don't have to bend or you will knacker your back.

Thanks lads...I have a couple of spare LT77 boxes - not too bad for weight. This would just be an engine - with an alloy head....is it really that heavy??

Agree with 2 man lift - with effort! I collected two from Maxwell when he was clearing his shed - heaviest engine I have ever lifted. My son and I struggled with them and they crushed a small 2 wheel trolley I had. We had pulled an engine from a Viva a few weeks before. It is all iron but comparatively a fly weight.

When I rebuilt mine it took all I had to pick it up and put it on the engine stand. That was before I put the head on.

Very heavy (can only trust the weights listed above).

I have an engine with gearbox sitting on my driveway. Every time I pass it I rub my chin for a few seconds wondering how on earth I'm going to get it to the back of my house (only access is through the house).

I'm sure it will have to be taken apart and then the heavy bits taken through the house on a trolly....... Then somehow get it back when it's rebuilt....... I must remember that some things aren't problems; they're opportunities to succeed [:)]

I used to be able to carry my Ferguson tractor engine, the TR3A engine in my Morgan +4 with some difficulty, single handed.

No way I can do the same with the TR7 engine.

Should go in the back of the Morry Traveler without too many problems, as long as you put something in the back first to spread the weight (pallet?) and make sure you you lash it down so it doesn't move about and cause loads of damage.
It is a pretty heavy lump that will need lifting in and out with an engine crane - certainly a two man job!

Good luck!

Cheers

Just for fun, there is in interesting table of engine weight here:

https://www.scribd.com/document/1739669 ... ight-Chart

The Triumph slant-4 is listed at 290lb = 131kg (source - Complete Handbook of Automotive Power Trains, Jan Norbye, 1981)

Now the actual engine block is not all that heavy. It's when you add the crankshaft, flywheel, pressure plate & disc, cylinder head, and all the rest of the internals that it all starts to sag your biceps.

The bare block itself, while no mere whistle in the breeze, is just hefty enough to be strong. Besides, lifting engine blocks is all part of an approved cardio-vascular restoration regimen.
