TR7/8 Mota -lita steering wheel

Hello - Sorry to hijack this old thread. I note Shauniedawn's second photo:

I have recently purchased a Moto Lita Wheel and boss kit from Rimmmers "to fit TR7". But I'm not entirely sure that it does. The wheel is a 14inch dished one with drilled holes, and looks lovely. However, it does not engage at all with the plastic fitting inside the column switch (that controls the indicator return). No dowels or other pieces were enclosed with it to provide for that, although I could probably make something up. Shauniedawn's photo does have the bits on it to engage with the plastic in the column switches, as does my orginal wheel as below:

However the supplied Moto Lita one doesn't:

Nor can I (and not for want of trying) push the wheel home any further than I have. I can't get even get it pushed in far enough for the nut to entirely clear the thread on the steering column, and this concerns me:

The splines do properly engage though.

Do you think I have been suppled with the wrong boss? Or have others gone down this route and just found they needed to ream out the boss or fettle something together using the dowel mounting points in the boss to activate the indicators?

Odd has got it correct. My matching number 8s' steering wheel has no makers mark but is clearly engraved with "Made in France". This is not on any of the spokes but on the top circumference behind the ring through which the bolts go. To see it you do not need to remove the steering wheel, merely undo all the retaining bolts and remove the retaining ring.[:)]

Bottomtop: You got the wrong boss from Rimmers, that's a genuine Moto-Lita boss - for something else...

From the three TR8 steering wheels I have:
1. original one that came with car "not marked"
2. brought from Rimmers 19/02/2004 PKC1295 £126.04 (made in France on rear face of rim that fits on boss).
3. bought 2013 from man in Birmingham who aquired it from his brother who worked at the factory and never got round to using it (no markings found).

I also have a black TR8 style wheel which has a suede covering which is on the car at the moment that cost me £145 in 2010.

Talking to Hamilton Classic at the TRR International Alastair said that he can get wheels refurbished although I was thinking about getting the powder coating done myself.

Spiders also had the same wheel as the TR8. Mine was stamped "MADE IN FRANCE". The 2 steering wheels I removed from salvage yard Spiders were also stamped with the same. I was told and it was my understanding that the original BL steering wheel was made in France FOR Moto-Lita (I hadn't heard it was a covert mission before). [:)] As far as Moto-Lita not being thrilled about it? Well, they seemed more than happy to take my ratty steering wheel and make it brand new! I shipped it to the Moto-Lita company in the UK and for a fair price and decent shipping my Spidey's wheel looks great! That was maybe 2 years ago. They did ask what color leather I wanted, so getting one changed over to blue is an option if that is what one requires. [8D]

I sent my steering wheel to Mota Lita and they recovered it. It looks as good as new. It was a few years ago and cost around £80.

I bought a wheel from S&S used. It was blue leather and looked like the original TR8 one. I dyed it black. I think it was stamped made in France. However the center cap logo is from a Corvette not a Triumph. I can't seem to find anyone who sells the center cap.

The centre caps are glued on, the glue dries out and it falls off and gets lost. You hardly see them any more. I got a center cap (Ron bought it for me) for the TR8 wheel on my Spider from a guy (Ian Cox) in our car club that sells British car paraphernalia. I think it was for a key fob but it fit perfectly.

The Moto Lita and Moss websites allow you to purchase the centre caps separately.
