To answer the original question, my TR7 owners guide recommends for an unbraked trailer, one up, trailer weight 495 Kg.

Braked trailer, 2 up, trailer weight 1016 Kg. If additional payload is carried in luggage etc., this weight should be deducted from the trailer weight.

They then go on to say, with additional care, braked trailers may be towed up to a gross train weight of 2680 Kg. With this weight restart gradient should not exceed 1 in 10.
