Heritage Motor Centre cd's

Postby rgsSpider » 21 Jun 2013 18:15

I just purchased the TR7/8 cd containing technical publications. Apparently, it is Windows only...how quaint! Has anyone had any luck getting this to work on a Mac? I've already opened it so I won't be getting a refund.

Speaking generically, those cd's tend to have a program to view the publications, which probably won't work on a MAC but the publications themselves may be in pdf format which is platform independent. View the disc in the MAC equivalent to Windows Explorer you may be able to open them directly.

Don't work with over priced Apple stuff too often as I find them too confusing but have done so when forced to.[8D]

I thought of that, unfortunately the PDFs are ALL password protected. I'm working on breaking the encryption. I'm definitely installing windows on my Mac just to view this cd. My initial thought when getting this was since it was PDF based i could put it on my ipad and have it handy with me in the garage. I'm guessing this company is not to quick to keep up with technology if they're only supporting Windows XP, etc.

They work on Windows XP but not on Windows 7 or 8. Not even if you run them in compatibility mode. I have an old computer that runs XP and is my print server and file backup location. I don't upgrade it mostly so that I can run the CD. It is really a useful thing to have. Anytime I'm doing something that I need the manual for I print out the pages that I need. If they get messed up, no problem. I just throw them into the recycle bin and print them out again if I need them. It would be really nice if they updated the CDs so that you could use them with newer operating systems, or even non Windows systems.

I'm not sure who Major Tom is, unless you're referring to David Bowie!

Shoot me an e-mail and I'll fill you in.
That CD have been around for far longer than Heritages´
- and it's been accessible in just about any version pdf-reader.

(For those of you who haven't seen Hadfields version, it's truly amazing!:

I was on the same wave length as you Randy.[:p]

Like Jim, I have a Windows XP I use as a print server and still run an obsolete scanner that does slides on it. Same reason I have a couple of $40 old DVD players to play John's DVD'S although I could now do it from laptop to HDTV through HDMI cable.

There are two versions of the DVD floating about - old versions don't run on windows 7, the new ones do. None work on a Mac.

The old ones used Hexalock encryption - I only know as I had to break it to get all of the PDFs off the damned thing to view on Windows 7 some years ago! Google should get you the method I used...
