"This is FUN"

Postby trekcarbonboy » 05 May 2013 10:11

Took my son for his first ride in Daddy's car. After I suggested it, it was all he could talk about until we did. Throughout the ride he kept saying "This is FUN". I couldn't have been happier! [:D] I told him that when he gets older it will be his car, to which he said "WOWWW". [:D]
It was just a short spin as Mom was not too thrilled about her boy being in the front seat of a 38 year old car, so low to the ground. And she made it clear that this would not be a regular thing. [V] Technically I'm not sure of the laws regarding this but you can put a kid in the seat of a pick-up truck as long as the airbag is off.
Happy Dad!

It's cool isn't it?

I had much the same thing in the mid-90's with my son. He called it "Dad's racing car". Somewhere in the house is a photo of him in the passenger seat on a booster (legally) wearing sunglasses and a big smile. If only you could bottle it.

Now he's 21, wondering when he'll get to drive it [:0] and costing us a fortune at Uni.

That brings back memories of about 17 years ago when my now 25 year old wanted a ride in the FHC. I have a long drive way that was dirt at the time. At one place the drive way is fairly wide so I decided to spin a couple of circles...really quick ones...He was hooked and at least twice a week during that summer Dad got to turn circles in the TR with the oldest Son...Ahh the memories... Two years ago in Solvang, Cal. my two year old grand niece wanted to go for a ride in my car. We didn't use the car seat as it was just a ride around the block and it was a 60 house development with only three houses occupied due to the US housing crisis so there was no traffic. On our return her Dad asked her "Was that fun"? She nodded her head. He said "I can see what I'll be buying her in 14 years."

I took 2 of grand kids, a boy 5, & a girl 7, for their first topless driving experience, last week in the Honda S2000. My son has the 8 1400Km away.

I was giver strict instructions to stay in the new 250 acre estate between us & the main road. I took them to different parts. The grand daughter I took though the smaller 1 acre blocks area, which have pretty little traffic calming roundabouts everywhere.

Back home she raved about going through the "twisties" so much, that I have to take the boy the same way next time they come.

I'm amazed they were so excited, they are out 3 or 4 times a month in their fathers inboard V8 powered sky boat.

I always bring the kids with me to shows and events , my kids grew up around cars , much the same way I did with my Dad.

For the record Craig, I've been strapping a car seat (now a booster) to the passenger seat for years now, with the seat belt attached properly and tight , I see no reason why it wouldn't be safe or legal.

My oldest just got her license Thursday ... maybe I might even let her drive the car to a show this summer [8D]

I don't have any little ones around; my kids are grown, but not old enough for grandkids (I hope). But my puppy has grown up riding in the car and she loves it!

Her first ride, at about 10 weeks old:

Hi,

Great pictures gents, my girls often come out to shows with me even though they are now young women, something about getting boys attention when in the V8 !!

My eldest had her junior school prom 7 or 8 years ago and rather than the normal and boring arrive in a limo we went in the DHC.

I had to take the out-laws German Shepherd down the road in mine. I fastened the passenger seat belt in its holder as the "connect your seat belt" sign flashed with every bump.

... I can't get my wife to even sit in it...
She sees that I love it, but she deffinately doesn't care for it...

But I can relate ages ago right before I sold my 73 Datsun 240z I took my older son (4 at the time - now 25) for a ride, he grinned from ear to ear the whole time...
