Clutch Master Cylinder Rebuild

Postby troydeon » 04 May 2013 13:59

Finally getting to my leaky clutch master cylinder. Got it out with no problems, but now it won't disassemble. Got the clip out but the internal piston and spring do not come out, am I missing something... maybe I should have just got a rebuilt one...

Try compressed air applied to the outlet fitting.

I've rebuilt mine a couple of times now, no issues taking it apart, although removing the circlip was fiddly.

No scoring in the cylinder, just the rubber perishing.

Thanks all, I went ahead and read the manual I had, I guess I should have started there. It recommended the compressed air also. I don't have compressed air but a few bumps against cardboard on the garage floor got it out...

From there straight forward. It was filthy! Had a little trouble bleeding the system, but finally got it fine after closing up the system and pumping it up vigoursly, maybe I should have started that way.

The systems been working fine - there is a new hose and the slave looks new so I think that now that I took care of the leaky master it should be fine for a while.

The kit was easy to use.

Yep Troy, the cardboard on the floor worked for me last week too. [:)] A large socket on the end helps too but I'm a bit late with that info.
Not sure where you got the hose but if you got it from Vic Brit they are soft and will expand under pressure (unless its the ss one). So if you notice any problem engaging the clutch, that's it. You can visibly see the hose expand! [V] I had trouble with mine so went back to the original one.

Me too! While I can't say I saw it expand, I could feel it expand by holding it.
