Front hub bearings

Hi All,

I am just about to start machining a set of alloy hubs for my TR7V8. I have fitted 4 pot calipers and Toyota Supra rotors. I need to beef up the outer bearing on hub.
Does anyone know the bearing number of the larger replacement bearing.

Original number LM 11749/LM 11710.

Would it not be cheaper to just buy a set some complete with uprated bearings and then have your discs redrilled?

Those are what I was going to suggest. Surely cheaper than commissioning a set yourself? Unless ofcourse you plant to do the lathe work yourself?

Hi Benzo,

Thanks for info, but not as cheap as making them yourself when you are a retired Toolmaker and have your own engineering workshop.

Why? I haven't had any problems with them over the years.
And I dare say, my front bearings get above average loads with rather sticky tyres ...

Hi,

Had a close look at Alastairs hubs at Stoneleigh and they are very sexy indeed [8D]

An original bearing is on the stud, although not that clear it is smaller than the one fitted to the hubs

Hi John,

If you look closely you can see the rollers are bigger diam than in the original. Can not read the bearing number in hub.

If you bought one of the Alloy hubs advertised, which is a copy more or less of the original hub, and want to fit the larger disc, you then have to fit a spacer between hub and disc. Now the kit offered by Rimmers has a steel spacer and it weighs 2.1kg. So making the whole unit on alloy makes sense. Just finalising drawing before starting to machine. Will let you know how I get on.

It was only when I got home I thought to myself that should have took a picture of the larger bearing so the part no. could be read, I think this question has come up before [?]

Hi Dursleyman,

Thanks for that, but I'm to old and to cynical to believe that will happen. How ironic I served my time as a Jig & Toolmaker at Standard-Triumph in the old Flechampstead toolroom 50 odd years ago, now gone full circle and I am back doing it again. I see from your profile you dabbled in rallying Rootes products, did you work there? An old Mate of mine now deceased Colin Malkin did a lot of rallying in Imps.
