Ken Slagle and the TR8 Roadster Championship Racer

Postby John Clancy » 19 Apr 2013 10:34

I haven't had much time to put anything much on either this forum or my own web site about how things are proceeding lately but this little news item is something I've wanted to do since we returned to the UK last month. Ken Slagle will be at 'The Gathering' in North Carolina this weekend so it's entirely relevant now. If I was anywhere in the UK right now I'd get along to this event! Anyway take a look at this page for a nice little piccie of Mr. Slagle in his famous race car for the first time since he sold it to Vernon Brannon all those years ago.

Would you know if the Slagle or Group 44 racers are actually being raced in vintage racing or are they just museum pieces?

Vernon still races Slagle's car but not as much in recent years. The #44 Group 44 TR8 is being restored to race again and the #4 car of Bill Warner has not been on the track in two years but will soon after an engine rebuild. I would say about 3 to 4 years ago the cars were used for vintage racing.

Vernon prefers to use the coupe and I think he's had that out more recently. The roadster has sat for about a year but he plans to go through it all again soon. Now we've got Vernon together with Ken who knows what will happen. I'd love to see him in the roadster on a race track even if it were just for demonstration laps.
