Front indicator lights

Why do I see on some cars the lens for these lights are clear with a colored bulb behind? Mine have the orange colored (amber?) lenses with clear bulbs. Is it a difference in year or even US vs UK?

You can simply remove the amber and fit a coloured bulb.

The full amber inserts for both sidelights and indicators are for US spec cars. The UK cars have the amber insert for indicators only. As John says either of these inserts could be replaced with coloured bulbs.

I'm talking about the lights in the front bumper. There are no inserts in those, the lens itself is amber.

Once again two people divided by a common lang... car model.

The US cars have a single front lens, it's all amber over both bulbs
while the ROW cars have a clear front lens with an inner amber filter for the direction indicator bulb/reflector area only.
The 5W parking bulb shines through the clear glass directly.

Easily exchanged between the two lens versions since all the rest is the same.
And with modern LED 'bulbs' it's easy to have the correct colour shine to suit the local legislation
while still having the non obtrusive clear lenses - BTDT...

Well I might just have to track down a pair of clear ones as I've got LEDs in there. I just like the look of the clear ones better.

It's funny what some of us prefer and others don't. I'm indifferent to the lens issue, but would love to get one of those UK spec rear bumpers without the big US spec overriders on it.

yeah the smooth rear covers are nice, but I still prefer "our" rear bumpers as they make a nice picnic table at car shows ......

Heck I'm so "different" I even like the UK side marker blanking plate [:D]

I think the single fact that we all prefer wedges sets us apart from the pack. Around here you see very few at shows, there's only two in my local club. They never get the attention the more classic cars get, but they do bring more nostalgia than the others. People always admire the more popular models, but the wedges always bring out an "I remember those!"

So true Randy. Like Ron I prefer the bumped bumpers as the UK ones are two "vanilla", two much like every other modern bumper but unlike Ron I prefer the side lights. The blanking plates make it look like something is missing, like you couldn't find a light assembly so you just put a piece of plastic in there. What's your preference?

The clear lens/coloured bulbs make it look more modern while the amber insert makes it look more retro.
