Mechanic in Kent

Hi everybody, Im new to the TR forum and have trouble with a leaking fuel tank, can anybody recommend a machanic or garage in Kent to take the tank out for me.

Be preparred fir a sizable bill though, the axle and exhaust have to come of first which may also find other repairs required.

Yeah, so do it yourself. It isn't that hard or complicated. Even doing it myself the bill was fairly high. Needed new rear suspension bushings, new in tank fuel pump and gauge sender, new exhaust, and had the tank reconditioned at a radiator/tank shop. While I had it out I coated the rear axle with POR-15. It all still works and looks good 4 years later.

I did it myself, being a FI tank with dual holes I had to remove failed sealer and treat it properly using POR-15 4 part system. Buying a tank was not an option. It does however require a bung welded into low point on tank as the sealer must be drained before it can cure, the sender hole/filler hole are not at low points for drainage. Fortunately mine had that previously done. If your's is a carb TR7 you can replace the tank with a new one, touching up whatever needs it as time allows. I did it by myself, it all went smoothly. The toughest part was getting the old sealer out (not your situation). A new tank will proceed to rust unless you treat it before hand, depends on how long you plan on keeping the car and if you keep it full it will have less condensation. Whether you do it yourself depends on if you have the money to pay some one else, if you have the time and place to do it.

If time and money allows, now is a good time to touch up suspension parts/axle with POR-15, replace bushings with poly, clean up and grease pivot points of e-brake, replace brake lines with braided steel, apply area above the tank with waxoil or other undercoating, etc. something that won't get done if a pro does it.
