How hard would it be to drop the motor with a 4 post lift?

once you have access to a lift , you never look back !





That being said , the only way I'd remove the powertrain assembly would be from the bottom .........

Just raise the front of the car with the same shop crane that picks the engine from the top. Just like the funny car dragsters.

I'm very fond of spindle lifts - and I'm VERY opposed to hydraulic lifts. Sooner or later they WILL leak...

I've got a West-German made Nussbaum 2.30SL-E [http://tinyurl.com/bs5mg7e] = all quality, no problems.
Assymetric arm lengths so doors can be opened. Nothing on the floor getting in the way of transmission jack or
any such tools - OR lasy feet... And as silverseven said; I'll never have to look back.

Personally I'd never take a Wedge engine out the top, it's sooo much more safe and easy to take it all out the bottom...

My son had a lovely BMW530D, some idiot hit the rear when it was parked and cracked a large hole in the bumper and pushed the exhaust in. He put it into a garage to fix on insurance (c£1700 IIRC!). While up on the lift one side collapsed and the car slid into the two posts, made quite a mess of the panels and screen pillar. He did a deal with the garage and left it with them...

I hope no-one was under that lift when it collapsed - sounds like a death trap to me. (I'm sure it was hydraulic... [}:)] )

I looked at this one a few years back. Might be good if you don't have a nine foot ceiling or need portability.

Nick, If I go 2 post (leaning that way) I will go that route. Costco sells it on special all the time.
My ceiling is about 117"
