Help - Anyone live near the borders?

Postby MartinWilky » 12 Mar 2013 09:31

Hi People
I have been looking at a Red TR7 DHC on ebay up near the borders
Are there any members who live in the area that may be able to meet up with me and give me some expert advice as this will be my first TR7
Thanx Martin

Very nice car only thing i winder about is, it is a 2.0L why the twin exhausts ( old photo of it when it had a V8 ?)

looks as if under bonnet has had a paint ( headlight pod bolts and bracket are red )

paint on the outside looks very fresh ( not a bad thing)

i am a bit to busy to go down just now ( I'm in Glasgow a two hour drive)

but i could contact Kenny to see if he is able to view if you are really interested

Hi Martin,
See you are still hunting - this one is looks nice.
Can see you are willing to do the 500 mile round trip.
A few questions I would ask before going up the A1:

1.
It has had a respray but why is the nearside engine bay front panel have overspray & the other doesn't -see bolts.
What was done body wise prior to respray ie arches all four/ sills etc
2.
Twin Exhausts at the rear on a single system & Chrome Wing mirrors- personal taste.
3.
Badging is incorrect - has Triumph wreath on front instead of small chrome badge.Boot badges are wrong size & front wing 2.0 ltr too low.
4.
Spoiler painted at front & sills not all black.Personal taste but suit the car.
Above are attention to detail only - but this car is at the upper pricing band.
5.
Interior looks good as does inner wings but check as rain channel looks a little brown.
6.
No pictures of the hood - is it good / watertight.
7.
Pictures don't look recent - fields in bloom last summer.
8.
No MOT date - would want a new one to be sure.

Hopefully what you saw on your last trip will give you idea.
Berwick Upon Tweed Station is nearest Kelso if you have a return trip to drive back [:D]

Exhaust might be custom or it might be something like Pacesetter exhaust, something you might see on this side of the water. I've seen a Spitfire with this setup, looked good, sounded pretty hairy.

Yes I think asking some more questions would be a good idea
I was hoping that there may of been some member who lived close who knew what they where looking at.
