Spider at Stoneleigh Show

Postby dursleyman » 03 Mar 2013 15:36

Just got back from the Triumph Show and Spares Day at Stoneleigh and was interested to see a Spider there. Noticed it first because it was black and on Injection, then looked further and saw power steering and aircon and the penny dropped.

I couldn't speak to the owner who was elsewhere but his colleague explained it was brought over from the USA in a mess and has had a total rebuild and conversion to RHD. The guy even made up his own seat material to match the original design.

Must say it did look very nice.

Spiders never had power steering. If my seats ever wear out (they were recovered prior to 1985 and still look new I would like to get them made like originals. If it had fuel injection it would be a Californian model (which had their own letter in the VIN number).

WHAT NO PICS?[:p]

Must say, having seen many very nice cars, I find the amount of work some of you guys put in a bit intimidating. My efforts are pretty much tinkering with the occasional engine in/out sort of job.

The TOTAL rebuild route is a path too tough for me.

Tou have to enjoy the journey to reach the destination. Not for everybody. Many have started and not got there.

Yep, me too.

I don't restore cars, I do them up, so I can drive them.

My 7 after 3+ years sitting, & 12 years of my ownership, has not seen a lick of paint under the thing, in all that time. Fortunately for me it still looks as it did 16 years ago, & where I live, that means dirty kind of black paint, not the rust everywhere some of you suffer.

If I had to contend with the climate & conditions many of you do, I think I'd be driving a shopping trolley, & changing it every three.

Or come out to the west coast to our club show "Brits on the Beach" (200+ cars) on third Sunday in July, I could put you up amid the house renos.

Or there's Van Dusen ABFM (600+ but only a handful of TR7/8's) in Vancouver (Queen Victoria Day), I'll be there.

Oh, and at Brits on the Beach this year there is a $5 morning pancake breakfast thrown by local service organization and after the show a barbecue for club members and guests.[:)]
