Door seals

Postby rgsSpider » 04 Jan 2013 19:22

I'm looking into new door seals. VB carries two kinds, a "fur-flex" and a "plastic" type. I ordered the fur-flex type and it is NOTHING like the original. Their "plastic" types looks like a closer match. Can anyone verify if the plastic one, #4 in the catalog, is a close match? And I wonder why the convertible one would cost more than the coupe, isn't there less material for the convertible model?

Canadian? Me? No, but I do have friends that are!

Those look like the ones I ordered from VB that aren't even close.

I haven't used them but maybe they could send a sample if they are in bulk.

That's alright Don, all us Spiders look the same. I went ahead and ordered the ones from VB. I had a gift certificate from Santa. They are listed as plastic, but I'm sure they mean rubber right? I've never heard of plastic seals. We'll see, I'll post pics.

Having installed the Macgregor seal, it is closest to OEM I have seen;closer than VB. Call them direct for a sample. If you still have the OEM seals, you can cut the Macgregor seal to proper length and carefully remove the end plugs from the OEM seals, install onto the new seal for close factory look.I forget the gentlemans name at Macgregor but he worked for Triumph and has some interesting stories.

I think the fellow's name is Martin. He was on the assembly line for the TR7 from what I can remember. He also tells a story involving Tony Pond and a rally test car. A smaller, independant supplier I like to support.

If the ones from VB aren't to my liking ill give him a call. I did buy some window channel moulding from him and it was perfect!

Just a quick update, I received the door seals today and they look to be an exact match. VB lists them as "plastic", but they are definitely rubber. I'll post some pics and update when I get it installed.

Did you ever get your door seals from VB installed? How did they work out?

I sure did! While they are not exactly the same as original, they are pretty darn close. I don't think anyone sells exact match to the originals. These are very well made and a great fit. I can get some pics if you like. I'm real happy with them though.
