V8 Auto/manual ?

As some of you already know I am spending a little time on 'Ruby', the project after 'Var' was sold on and consequently finished off to a very high standard [8D]
I have in the pipeline a V8 fuel injected 3.5litre engine from a Range Rover for Ruby and the question I would like to ask (as this has been brought to my attention) that an automatic V8 Range Rover engine has a different crankshaft to the manual and to fit 'Rubys' 5 speed I will have to change the crankshaft, can anyone verify my advise.

PS Ruby is on the back burner at present due to an unexpected Triumph Spitfire being worked on for better practice to being Ruby into pristine condition [:D]

Hi,
No, the crankshafts are the same for manual and auto, what is different though is the spigot bush in the rear of the crankshaft, its a brass bush you'll have to lever out and get one for a manual transmission.

So panic over [:)]

You'll have to get a flywheel from a manual SD1
since the RangeRover one is different as are the clutch components...

Thanks Odd, I will need all the info I can muster on Ruby's conversion.
I guess the time is now to start looking for these parts, well after Christmas anyway [:)]

Use the easy out option to remove the bushing. Fill the hole with gease, get a punch the same size as the hole, hold the punch with a rag, give a good whack with a hammer and the bushing should pop out.

I've fitted a 36D engine from a slushbox'd LR Disco into my TR8
and had to get lots of stuff to get it all fully operational...

As of today an S and S Conversions V8 subframe,3.5 Range Rover FI engine, ecu and that is all at the moment.

Thanks Mark, I remember doing something like that with my Chrysler when I converted it to manual from auto to remove the bush, funny how things can jog memories [:)] Plus it was years ago [^]

I do hope you've got the entire harness <u>between</u> the 3.5 Range Rover FI engine and the ecu. And around them...
If not you're in deep s--- and have lots of work ahead of you. [xx(]
