You sometimes forget how good this forum is

Seriously, you sometimes forget how good this forum is, 'till you go and ask a question on some of the other car forums out there.

I've had in intermittent problem with my MGF and about 2 weeks ago I thought I might ask about likely causes on some of the MG forums, basically the only responses were: Take it to a dealer and some idiot suggested that the ignition points need changing because that's what he'd done on his old Morris many years ago![:o)]

On here if I'd asked a similar question about a TR7/8 I'd be inundated with suggestions and offers.

This really would have to be the best by far online car community I've come across, the only other one I could think of that could come close was the now sadly defunct Alfa 90 forum.

Hi Cobber,

Dont forget worked on MGF's from launch, in fact still got launch paperwork upstairs somewhere, one day may be worth as much as TR7 launch packs!!!

I have an MG TF and sometimes go on the forum. What a waste of space. I have never got a decent response from a technical question. Most of the topics are "do you like my cars colour" etc.

This is a great forum and if your a member of the TR Drivers club I really think you could find anything you will ever need about these cars.

<font size="2"><font face="Comic Sans MS">I agree with you there, I think 1/2 the problem is that all the MGF posts are stuck in together so anything that isn't replied to quickly soon sinks to far down the order to be noticed as the more frivolous subjects such as the "do you like the colour of my car" attract more replies due to the fact that even the biggest dropkick can answer them whereas the technical stuff is way beyond them.

I think most of the problem is not so much the forum as the type of person buying the cars. A newer car like a MGF is most likely bought by the some times younger none technical crowd. As such, they take their car to the local garage and know little about the technical side either by practice or inclination. The TR7, being an older car, has few professional people who know anything about them so ownership is more by those who work on the cars themselves or at least have a good knowledge as to how they work. You get similar help from the Spitfire forum on the Spitfire Magazine site which is a similar situation to the TR7 (old car, only owners know how to work on them).

That being said, other marque forums seem to reflect the internet community that is more attitude than wanting to help.

I have to agree with everyone else here. Especially for a car that wasn't produced in huge quantities there is a wealth of information, help, and good opinion here. My son's recent experience with his Saab seems to tell me that we aren't the only good car forum, even though we are the best. He got a lot of good help from the Saab Central forum. As anyone who has ever worked on an old Saab knows they aren't put together like most cars. They are downright weird in a lot of ways. My only other experience with a forum is the Ford F-150 forum. A good deal of the information there has to do with getting more power or making the truck more "manly". I had a problem with the air injection rail on mine and nobody had any idea what to do about it. The dealer wanted over $400 for a new one. After a lot of searching I found one at Rock Auto for $40. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that there are more F-150s out there than any other vehicle and it is much harder to get decent help than it is here.
