Just got back from the NEC and have to say its a massive show, theres probably one example of every possible classic car, including quite a few TR7s which is the bonus of course!

I met TR7Jim and Chris Turner and later John215 and StevieA which was good but didn't chat long, the wife was waiting, plus I'm not good at meeting new people, but I shouldn't have worried because you all seem really nice chaps. But I'm glad I said hello.

After meeting you stevie I thought about what you said and I think I have seen you before, but I just can't think where??

Just to prove my interest in your car John[:)] Me and my son giving your engine a good look over, especially your starter motor....now that sounds a bit odd[:D]

A great day - and a fabulous atmosphere on the TRDC stand.
It was good to meet up with some of 'The Team' again, and especially to finally bump into Stevie A.
Sorry I was just on my way out; I'd have liked to have lingered to chat a bit longer!

Where would the TR7 be now if it wasn't for the TR Drivers Club? I hate to think how few would be left if it wasn't for this club. Thank you to everyone who has helped keep these cars on the road over the years whilst they were ridiculed and widely hated, particularly by other Triumph car clubs who should really have known better.

We had a great time meeting so many fellow enthusiasts. And to have so many former members of Standard-Triumph and British Leyland staff visit us over the two days we were there was just unbelievable. Harris Mann spending hours with us all was unbelievable enough but for Paddy Hopkirk to also spend about an hour with us all was just the icing on the cake. Gordon Birtwistle, Bill Price, John Ashford, Richard Hunt and so many others helped make the TR Drivers Club stand the place to be. I suppose 8 wedges and that fabulous TR6 also helped!

Could not echo your sentiments better John - from the pictures the team at the NEC Stand have done us all proud - all the cars looked fabulous.
Safe journey home to all of you especially to Tony & Roy - got an idea for next year if you can find another yellow TR7.

Thank you to every TRDC member who helped on the stand, your cars were superb.
Also thanks to all the TRDC members who visited the stand and made it such a great place for TR enthusiasts.
Main thanks to Phil Humphries, Mike Satchwell, Ian and Barbara for organising the stand.
Sorry I couldnt do more days but I enjoyed every minute of Saturday.

Hi,

Just got home, what a great weekend [8D] with no Billing this year [:(], it has to the highlight of my TR year. Great to see everyone today and if there was a reward for the freindliest stand at the show it would have been ours [8D]

Would like to thank, Phil, Barbara, Ian and Mike for organising such a great stand. Can honestly say I enjoyed every minute of it.

Spoke to Howard Prior before leaving this evening and his amazing 'real' UK TR8 was in concourse up at the NEC and he finnished mid table, and if anyone saw the quality of the car in the 16 car competition then he did really well and he drives his unlike all the ' trailor queen' cars that finnished above him.

Will post picture tomorrow and whilst its still 18th Nov <b>HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROY</b> [:D]

Just got back home and thought I'd have a quick peek on here before I get off to bed (must be getting old).

That was one awesome weekend. I'd just like too say a big thankyou to everyone who made it such a very enjoyable weekend. Displaying the car is the easy bit. I met so many great people from the TR Drivers club,forum members, and celebrities it would take ages to list all the names. I'd like too say a special thankyou to Phil Humphries for his help in sorting my little problem and everyones concern. Michelle is very gratefull too you all.

I found the general public very positive about the TR7 and TR8 and attitudes are definitely changing, and I even impressed Jim when I signed up a new member (welcome Sacha) to the best and only club for the TR7&TR8.

Thanks very much John for the birthday greeting, and you're kind words for Michelle. It was great to spend a few days with you and I will too buy you a beer sometime.

See you all next year.

Congratulations to everybody involved with the display, definitly the best display of wedges and the TR6 looked great,I thought we put the TR Register to shame,of which I am also a member,for display and friendliness to the public, quite a few positive comments from some of the visitors to the stand which we overheard and also chatted with them, suprising how many people are now showing interest in the 7 & 8s,also noticed how keen a lot of youngsters seemed very impressed with our cars.[:D]
It was good to catch up with John,great photos by the way,and Tony and Roy,happy birthday Roy.
We hope you all arrived home safely.

What a great event! Great cars, great company, I enjoyed the whole show tremendously. The friendliness of all those involved, both from TRDC & other exhibitors was really superb.

A real privilege to meet many of the guests to our stand, got the inside of my boot lid autographed by quite a few of them!

Helped out a guy from the SD1 club with his Federal spec EFI LHD car, he was having a few problems with the idle so he was over the moon to be introduced to Albert Tingey, who developed the EFI system.

The TR8 ran fine, home by 8.30, just trying to get my head back into work mode now!

Roy you are more than welcome and thanks not nec [:I].,as everything I said to Michelle was 100% true, looking forward to doing the New Forest run next year make sure once you hear of a date post it on here.


THE highlight for me was a simple one, a little girls came up to me yesterday ( about 5 years old ) with her parents, they had done a list of questions for her on various car's there, her mum was saying they had wrote them down for to keep her occupied a sort of treasure hunt if you like. Her question for the TR7 was -

<font color="red">' Who was the designer of the seven ? '</font id="red">


I said i can do better than answer your question can show you his signature, she was made up [:)] and had a picture taken pointing to it. Said to her if she was good for mum and dad, before she goes home come back and have her picture taken sitting in my car. Mid afternoon she was back and had been good so in she jumped with a smile ear to ear and pictures were taken. Both her and parents were over the moon. We were the only stand in the whole show had been that helpfull, they were virtually ignored on the Register stand i am sorry to say. That on its own made the whole weekend worth while.

WE really are the club for TR7's and 8's there is no alternative. There was a gent on the Register stand when i went over to chat a fellow TR7 owner, that had just sold his TR4 as too old to crawl in and out of it but wanted a TR of some decription. He came over and sat in mine, did tell him mine was lowered so poss not the easiest 7 to get in and out off but loved the way it felt, showed him last months mag and I think he was sold on a car and our club ! Another guy who was 6 foot plus and was worried he would not be able to sit in it with the roof up, put my roof up and off he went after a chat to find a car and eventually join the club. Answered so many questions on conversions, there are lot being done and should write a book on doing it! Must admit enjoyed giving answers to problems people had come up against and the smiles on there faces when they had a solution or two.

Was great to hear almost 100% good feedback about our cars. Hopefully convinced a few people who were going to break cars to sell them on rather than a fate on Ebay as once they are gone they are gone [:(]



Plus got a few more signatures for my autograph book, or as some people would say the inside of my boot lid [:p]

i was there sunday had a great day so much to see. Our stand looked great and as usual all there guys on the stand were welcoming. Well done all of you in putting it together. You deserve a big pat on the back and Thanks[:)]

What a lovely story John, I saw that little girl sat in your car.

There was a lot of interest in the cars, & quite a few people commented to me that they perceived the TR7 as a classic that was now coming of age, and there is a definite interest in the FHC.

Among the many fascinating conversations I had over the 3 days, I had quite a long chat with Gordon Birtwistle (former Triumph HIgh Speed Test Driver). We were stood opposite the Register stand, where there was 4VC the ex works TR4, & SJW548S the ex works TR7V8 rally car. Gordon commented "Oh, there's my old car" about 4VC - he had bought it from Triumph back in the 60s after the end of it's rally career. Then he said about SJW "I drove that too, did some loose surface testing with Pondy in the Welsh forests when we were developing the car. I was a bit concerned when Pondy had it flat out in 5th going downhill on the gravel with a sharp bend at the bottom!"

Priceless memories that are a priviledge to hear [:)]

Tony, did Gordon mention that he sold 4VC through Exchange and Mart to Ian Cornish who still owns the car.This makes it the only survivor of the TR4 rally cars to have unbroken history up to the present day.
