Roll Bar?

What is everyone's thought about a roll bar for the TR7? I like the way they look. Any ideas on the best place to get one? Are they hard to install?

I have put on the street non race to the full six point roll cage and they are simple with the exception of the roadster that has the rear main hoop diagonal bars that mount between the frame rail and close to the gas tank so you have to have small hands and a spacer on the drill bit to not go to far and hit the tank. You will also have to remove the sound deadening so it fits flat and the roof frame clears it. They also make one by special request that will if needed slide the seats all the way back if you have long legs.

Are you looking at a cage for a coupe or a roll bar for a drophead? If the latter Rimmers do the Aley roll bar but it costs £336+VAT (to us anyway). Sometimes available on ebay much cheaper. It looks one of the better ones to me, but then I also look at those without and think the look is cleaner. However, putting the roll bar in does stiffen it up a lot, mine does not suffer from any scuttle shake etc.

Presumably for a convertible? I think they are pig ugly and spoil the lines of the TR7 with the hood down. Be a boring world though, if we all thought alike! It is difficult to ignore the significant potential safety advantages from fitting a well designed roll bar though. They will require drilling to fit and some of them require tricky access in the region of the fuel tank. I remember reading some research decades ago about the safety of convertibles in a roll over situations and it was not good. Many cars today have pop up roll over bars to overcome marring the smooth lines and improve safety. I have seriously thought about fitting one to mine but only from the aspect of improved safety. supercass

Hi Sheldon supercass might think they look ugly but I don't and the idea of the roll bar is to possibly,in the worst scenario,save your life if you are unlucky enough to roll the car over.
I got mine from S+S several years ago and it was a bit of a mission to fit but I think the roll bar suits the car nd I would be very unhappy being in or driving a convertible without one.
I suppose it is down to personal choice in the end.

I don't mind roll bars, our treasurer has one on his black 7 with customized hood cover to fit around it and doesn't look too bad. But unless you're racing what are the chances you are going to need it? It won't help in an accident and if you are going to go off the highway and roll over it's likely your own fault. If you are indeed worried about it there are three things you should do.
1. Move out of any place that has a chance of being struck by an earth quake.
2. Move out of any place that has a chance of being struck by a tornado or hurricane.
3. Sell your convertible and buy a coupe.

Hi,

I found fitting the roll bar to my DHC it stiffened up the shell a lot, this was futher improved by fitting a strut brace now feels like a FHC [8D]

I has a 'hood bag' made up by a local coach builder in mohair to match the roof and fit around the roll bar.

I quite like the look of a DHC fitted with the roll bar, kind of a finishing touch.

There is a roll bar hanging up in the garage just waiting for a chance to get fitted so can anyone tell me how difficult it is? The back mounts sit over the body seam on the rear parcel shelf and above the fuel tank which suggests it might be a bit of a b*****r?

The roll bar came with HJW77W when I bought the car 10 years ago but turned out to be just sitting in position with no fixings at all!!!
