Houston, we have a problem

Postby cartoon6pk » 30 Sep 2012 23:31

Hi everyone,
Can anyone help me?
I don't drive the TR7 that much, but the last two times I took it out, the temp gauge shot up. It normally runs slightly cooler than dead center, when i was driving it the gauge went as high as it could go. I pulled over and opened the hood or "bonnet".enerything looked ok. I got in and the gauge went back to normal. I drove home no problem. The same thing happend today. Is it a gauge problem or maybe thermostat? Any ideas, any thing I should look at?
Thank you
Sheldon

I had the same thing on my car several years ago.

I had a bad / brittle wire to the temp sensor in the engine bay. Move it the right way, and the gauge worked ok, move it slightly, and the wire inside lost the connection and the gauge pegged to the top.

Hope this helps.

Hi Sheldon,

I also had this problem earlier this year. It turned out to be a poor earth, which was also effecting the indicators and headlights. It was also suggested to me by an electrician at the time that it could be a faulty voltage regualator in the back of the alternator? Hope this helps?
