Electric power steering for a 7.

Postby Hasbeen » 06 Sep 2012 11:35

For any one who may be interested, our local Triumph guru was boasting to me today that he had now perfected an electric power steering conversion for 7s & 8s.

Evidently the owner of the car is very happy with his new found ease of steering.

If any Ozzies are interested, let me know, & I'll put you in touch.

What's next in life??? Electric toothbrushes? Electric knives? Electric bread toasters?

This is getting ridiculous! All these new-fangled, futuristic and completely useless gadgets and will NEVER be accepted by any right thinking consumer! Particularly AMERICAN consumers. I mean, can you ever imagine women anywhere throwing away their scrub boards for doing laundry? I know I can't.

Now, if you will excuse me, I have to hitch up the buggy to fetch some coal oil for the lanterns.

Any idea what the eps unit he is using comes from, or is it an aftermarket part?

Sorry Dan, he was very cagey about telling me what the gear came off, or how much modification was required. I guess he plans to sell a few.

He used to do a hydraulic rack conversion, but thinks this is better.

I'm with you Mildred. As I pointed out to a friend recently, if I fitted power steering to the 7 I'd have to join a gym to get the exercise just driving to town now supplies, free of charge.

Power steering makes my TR8 a dream to drive. It couldn't do anything but help the TR7.

You should hear the grumbles I get when I explain that I'm considering a Ford AOD for my MGB 5-liter install.

Although power steering would help in the parking lot, it's light on the road. With that and an auto even the wife could drive it, but if I wanted a Miata I would have bought a Miata.

What a terrifying thought Spyder? The idea that the little lady would be borrowing the 7 when she wanted a new dress or pair of shoes fills me with fear.
