Mounting speakers

I've got some small box speakers, @9x12x3, that I'd like to mount to the rear firewall. I'd rather it not be a permanent install, don't want to mess up the fw panel if I don't have to. I was thinking industrial strength Velcro, but I'm worried that the heat of the sun (Florida sun that is) may weaken the adhesive on the Velcro and then I'll end up with a sticky mess. These are not real heavy boxes so I'm confident the Velcro would hold them.

Any suggestions?

Velcro would certainly make them non permanent (last maybe 5 minutes in the wrong part of town.)

How about fashioning a bracket that fits under the seat belt guide and loop over the hump of the rear bulkhead that you could bolt the speakers to similar to what I did with my wind blocker.

I hadn't thought about a bracket. I would prefer the speakers be lower down towards the floor. Something to think about though.

Mine went up high to get the desired height of the wind blocker (could still be up an inch or two. You could bend them so they go straight down after the panel hump. I got the stainless steel from recyclers for $8 but didn't have enough to make a higher set so used the balance for different application (transmission to lift adapter).

I finally came up with a solution that I can live with. The speakers came with mounting "tabs" that screwed into the back of the speakers. I attached snaps to the firewall panel and to the mounting tabs on the speakers. So now they are removeable and will hopefully stay in place while driving. Yes I realize the right speaker is upside down, but I wanted them both to point out wards as there is a tweeter on one side.

So now a question. After getting the center console out, and the frame covers on both sides, and all the screws removed, is there a trick to getting that damn panel in and out without contorting it?

I'm not really worried about thieves, they are everywhere and will get what they want no matter how hard it is to get it. I've got a thirty-three year old car, with an am/fm/cassette, with cheap box speakers, I'm not real worried. Plus I don't leave it unattended in questionable places.

Can you turn one of the speakers around inside the box so you can mount them symmetrically? supercass

Nope, can't move them around. Doesn't relly matter, once the panel is installed and the seats are reclined you'll never even see the speakers.

They actually sound pretty good! They have stayed put with no problems coming unsnapped or anything like that. Keep in mind, I've got the original head unit in there so it's not producing big fancy sound, but they sound good to me and I can hear them clearly with the top down. They're cheap enough that it was worth the risk to me and I'm real glad I got them. As stated earlier, each speaker is the same so if they will be mounted in plain view you'll have to mount them going the same direction. The open port is on the right side of each speaker and I wanted the sound to be symmetrical more than the appearance.

I would mount the speakers the same as yours. I have an old Blaunpunkt Boston SQR49 cassette deck with a Blaupunkt 60 watt amp mounted under the passenger seat. The base response of the 4 inch Blaupunkt speakers in the doors needs improvement. All I need to do is mount the speakers on the panel behind the seats and run the wires to the amp. My other option is to mount a pair of Minimus 7 speakers pointed up behind the seats. How is the base response on the custom auatosound box speakers?

I think it's pretty good! It's not going to rattle the car loose, but it makes that old radio sound better than it did when it was new!
