Engine & Gearbox removal - what can go wrong?

Ok, so finally after many hold ups and stuff getting in the way, I am lining myself up for engine & gearbox removal as one unit from below, so this will also include the subframe as well.
Pretty much removed/disconnected everything, so just the engine mounts and subframe mounts to go.

Plan is to drop the engine & box onto 2 trolleys. Each trolley can take upto 300kg so should be ok.

So, what can go possibly go wrong ?????
Advice from those who've done this before much appreciated...

(I'll add some pics when I have remembered how to do it)

Hi,

Having taken the gearbox and engine out both ways I recommend lifting the car off the front suspension and subframe as you describe. if you remove the front bumper the plates where you mount the bumper are perfect to bolt a lifting plate of your own design to.

One tip, remember to disconnect the front brake hoses, they probably need replacement but they are something that gets forgotten when disconnecting everything.

Several months since I posted this query, I did indeed drop the engine & box out. In fact *nothing* went wrong and without too much trauma the engine & box ended up on 2 trolleys.

I was short of a couple of inches of clearance between the front bumper & the oil filler cap (it's a Sprint engine) so just moved the engine crane back a bit and then lifted the front of the car up with some rope & then slipped the engine & box out.
No metal was harmed and the engine & box are safely lined up alongside the garage wall.

I had already removed the struts and all the calipers.

I even bolted it to the wall, no, not for some sort of theft prevention but primarily to stop it from toppling over onto me.

Progress is slow, but getting there. Give it another 6 years and it might be on the road....
