Colour for a TR7 DHC

I finally got round to talking to a bodyshop about painting my other TR7 DHC "project" that has been gathering dust in the garage for a couple of years and the guy asked me the obvious question - "What colour do you want?"
Now, I had always assumed it would be the original colour of Carmine Red, but he has now got me thinking do I really want it in a different colour.
It will be a bare body job so it can be any colour I want. My existing car is close to Carmine but a paint supplier has been over it with the test strips and reckons its actually a Fiat colour !!

So opinions of a good colour for a DHC TR7 are welcomed - but may be ignored.

These cars seem to look their best in the more striking colors, like the reds, white, or Inca Yellow, Tritan Green and of course Pageant Blue. It's sort of a 70s thing! I think my favorite is Tritan. But I've never been one to change the color of any car. It seems like there will always be signs of the original color somewhere, no matter how good the painter is.

You have to decide, do you want to use an original colour (different colours were available (used) in different years). If the car is modified (most are) it's not so important. If not that opens up a big variety of choices. What's your favorite colour. The bold colours do look very good but a few where quite muted (like my yellow TCT with it's Tumeric Yellow, only available in 1979) and let the styling make the statement.

It all depends on your own taste. Now, if I had a completely original car I'd probably want to keep it an original color. If, on the other hand, you have a slightly modified car like me whatever color you like is fine. Mine is a Volkswagen color. I like it and that is all that matters.

For me, carmine red isn't vivid enough so I chose Ford Truck Red. I've always thought our cars look great in a bright white also & gives it a classier look IMHO. Platinum takes years off the car but doesn't have much drama.

A short while ago there was a pale blue dhc on ebay with polished wolfies.... Not a colour I would have thought of, but looked great on the pics.

If the car is totally standard and original I would keep the factory colour. If you're going to update/upgrade/modify etc then paint it whatever colour you like. Mine's a Mercedes blue, suits the car well.

Sorry guys I should have said that I am not too worried about keeping it a standard colour, so anything is possible. Only thing I want to do is keep it a one coat job, ie no laquer topcoat. Its simpler, cheaper and easier to touch-up after the inevitable scratches.

A more vivid red sounds good, but if I going blue then it needs to be a deep colour, not a pale one. I haven't seen a green I like, eg BRG does not seem to work on a TR7, or is that just me? I used to have a Stag in Emerald, a rich dark green, but I don't think it would work on the TR7.

I chose Jaguar Solent Blue over 20 years ago, mainly because I had to park the car on the street. I wanted it to be fairly discreet and not attract unwanted attention.

If I'd had off street parking then I may have chosen a Rosso red similar to that chosen by so many Grinall owners at the time.
