fitting a door skin

I managed to reverse my elan into the side of the tr this morning, fortunately only the paint is scufed on the lotus but the tr now has a 10 inch long dent in the door, the dent is not that big but given the door has already had the bottom replaced and now has rust coming through at the top I have decided to fit a new skin, any tips on fitting them to a tr7?

I had skins fitted to my 6 many, many years ago

I wish I would have done the final adjustment with the door on the car

That’s the most important bit of fitting new door skins.
Before fixating the skin to the door frame fit it to the car to check the panel gaps.
Also check the skin itself after fitting, they usually need some rectification to get the smooth.
This is best done before paint preparations ...





Otherwise pretty straight forward, and not too time consuming.
As long as you know what you are doing and have the proper tools.

Hi,

Can echo what my learned friend Bean's say's, do the final check on the car. I brought a set of recon doors of Ebay and although fitting a snip, trying to get a perfect alignment not so much fun.

The last time I did one on a mini if I remember correctly, I losely folded it over and only crimped it tight in a couple of places, then adjusted it on the car by knocking it via a block of wood before going round and crimping all the edge tight and adding a few tacks of weld, is this the sort of thing you mean.
