Them & Us - Nothing Changes.

Today I decided to go for a drive to the coast in the TR8, the weather forecast was wrong as usual & after 10 minutes it poured down. We pressed on with the roof down & as long as we stayed over 50mph we were nice and dry. Had an ice-cream and a walk at the beach & came home again. [8D]
Anyway, the point of this thread is that on the way there we passed a TR6, gave him a flash & a wave and got totally ignored! Then on the way home we passed a nice TR4a, again gave a flash & a wave and got totally ignored again! [:(]
It would seem that however much we think our cars are being accepted as classics by the older TR's they're not interested. I get more response from other makes of old car than from TR's.

True to some degree but it's changing in our club with us going from zero TR7/8's to a dozen or so. Before a meeting last year just after we returned from California a member came up to me and said "I never liked the TR7 but the more I see of yours the more I like them". When our Treasurer finally gets his Sprint Stage II head from S&S with his headers and 2" SU's giving an estimated 160hp after all the work is done that respect will grow a little more no doubt.

In the middle of Canada things are not so bad as the Triumph Drivers Club of Manitoba has a lot of members that only own, (do I dare say it) MGs. Also proof that we all can get along my wife drives an Austin Healey Sprite.

But I did have a TR6 pull up next to me at a light when I was driving my TR8 and said to me, "Why didn't you buy a real Triumph?"
I said,"I wanted a Triumph that I would spend more time driving then fixing."

No offence TR6 owners, I would own the TR models if I could.

I find the problem with flashing someone in a TR7 is that by the time the lamps have come up lit the other car is long gone! Did get a wave from someone in an ordinary box the other week but the lights were too slow to acknowlege it.

Hi Andy agree with you entirely, we have got to the point now where we only aknowledge if they wave or aknowledge us first, it's a pity
some of these drivers haven't driven a wedge then they would know how good they are.[}:)]

Went out for a run this afternoon and was aknowledged by a lovely woman in her 30s driving a yellow Spitfire.

Hi

Went up to Retro Show up ' The Pod 'today and was on the The Register stand, what a great bunch of lads and lasses. On the way up there got a wave from a Stag driver and the way home got a wave of a Austin 7 driver and even more of a supprise a MGB [:0]

Had a gent turn up in a Triumph 2000, who belongs to Club Triumph and he was made more than welcome when he asked was there any chance of parking with us.

since returning to the fold ( just over 12 months) i only seen two other TR's boths 6's and both waved...

I don't think we have the same problem in Oz, most sports car fans acknowledge each other with a wave. I even exchanged waves with an MG A when I was in my S2000 the other day, [:D] I guess we accept anyone else who goes topless as a kindred spirit.

I can understand how drivers of the earlier TRs may become a bit testy, after all they are probably a more than a little jealous of us, with our nice engines. [}:)] Having spent 2 years racing a Morgan +4, powered at that time by the TR3A wet sleeve boat anchor I can fully understand that. [;)]

So next time one of the push rod brigade won't give you a wave, just feel sorry for them, & understand their problem. [^]

Although I usually moan about this sort of thing I got a flash and wave from a TR6 yesterday on the M5 going to Culmstock classic car show.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. If you like waving to people then keep waving. Maybe they were too busy looking at the temp guage to notice your salutation. [}:)]
