Strange and overly secret country you guys live in. You've got the registration number
- how hard can it be to get the owners name and address?!?
For a good, transparent example just point your representatives across the North Sea:
It's much easier and more transparent in Sweden; Anyone (who pays the DVLA fee)
can get most all the info you want regarding an automobile - as long as you've got
the registration number OR the VIN/Commission number/Chassis number.
I can get it here on my home computer, since the Club pay our fees, but anyone
can get it (computer-)faxed to them by doing a phone call to the Swedish DVLA
and punching in the registration number on their phone - "quite handy" is the
general consensus. Makes it easy to check the status on a vehicle you are
considering buying for instance, so you don't end up with a lemon...

Let me show you what comes out when I do a check on my own TR8, PSL292 TPZDV8AT211468

A lot of info in that

No, it was just the washer that was not OK'd - and got a 2X classification.
( The plastic T-piece had split in two, so no water reached the windscreen - it all ended up on the hot engine... [:)]
Both of us, the technician and I, were laughing good at this. "It says something about how often this car is
operated in foul weather conditions." was his comment. ) The text inside the brackets are just an explanation
of the classification an error can get at the MOT station - and I got one 2X last time.

Yes, it's most of the info recorded about the car. All at roughly 8 mouse clicks distance...
And since two cars cannot have the same registration data, incl VIN, there's no problem in this type of availability
and transparency. And should two cars have the same VIN (this happened with some really old ones from long
before the introduction of our common computer carried data base (which happened in 1970 I think) they can
never get the same 6 position alfanumeric registration combination... Btw, "personal" plates (like the ODDONE I
had) can have 7 positions...

Two Piper GT's left the factory with the same VIN number, wonder what they would have done in that situation???

I, for one prefer it that way. I don't want any Tom, Dick or Harry obtaining my personal details on a whim. I resent that information about my car is publicly available. supercass

I've always thought the tail lights on the TR7 were one of the weakest parts of the design. It's fun to see a different set, but I don't think these look much better. Certainly not a big enough difference to justify how much work it must have been to fit them. Especially wrapping around the side and that little lip around the bottom of the boot lid.
Too much work, not enough improvement (which I guess could be the story of my life!)

I thought the rear lights was one of the strongest design elements of the car, unlike anything else on the market as opposed to the BMW lights which are similar to hundreds of other cars. Each to his own of course.
