That yellow car looks like a stunner! We'll have to get that featured on the front cover of the TR Driver!!! Now how about a pretty model to go with it?

Set off with great intent but decided I couldn't face the rain after 20 miles of spray on the motorway. Think I'll just watch the Bullet DVD[:D]

John, latest upgrades are ITG super air filter( fits in original housing) and Acuspark plugs, made quite a difference. The plugs at £8 per set must be the best value car parts ever.

Don't worry about the weather as it had light rain all day at Tatton Park today - it was a good show with lots of nice cars to see.
The TR Drivers Club backs onto to sheltered trees so was dry through out the day.
Just watch the happy campers as you reverse onto the pitch - think they will be a bit cold by Sunday [:)]

Roy ( with Tony assisting ) picked a cup for his Yellow TR in the picture with Simon & his Spider picked one up too while my TR7 picked up 'Best Rare Car' for the Tatton show so all in all a good day for the TR7's.

Nice to meet Stuart & Jim Johnson ( thanks for plaster before I bled all over my trim on the drive home ) plus the rest of the Guys who attended today - a really friendy day out

Following on from our chat on Saturday re your car's timeline I checked the two magazines I have (C&S June & July 2001) and no adverts for your car at all. Your hunt continues.

Regards.

It was nice to meet you & your family yesterday & I appreciate the time you have taken to look at your magazine collection for the advert of my cars second sale.
Will save me hunting down those specific mags which is a help to me.
Thanks again,
Neil

Roy & I went up very early Saturday in Roy's Inca FHC, had a good journey up with just the odd shower, got there in plenty of time. Roy's auto coupe ran beautifully the whole weekend& certainly opened my eyes as to how good the auto version is.

There was patchy light rain most of Saturday, but the show was good & there was a reasonable turn out for the TRDC stand. Good to see everyone again, & meet a few new faces.

We were camping Saturday night & just after dark the rain really started. It rained all night & all day Sunday, which was such a shame as it was obvious that many people stayed away. Nevertheless we had another decent turn out of cars for the stand, some really nice examples. By 4 o'clock when it ended we were so wet & cold that we packed up the tents & drove back that evening!

Highlights were Roy winning a well deserved trophy for his car, me finding a pair of NOS blue check seat bases in the autojumble at a very reasonable price [:)], and then seeing the ACT pre production DHC!

The ACT car really was interesting. The owner had it on another stand but he was very happy for a little gaggle of us to poke around the car, & he showed us the documentation he had. Bodyshell number 9 built end of April/start of May 78 at Speke (presumably "off line"), delivered 11th May to Canley Engineering. The BMIHT certificate states Home Market RHD & confirms that it is a Pre Production car. It is still in very good condition, in it's original Flamenco Red. Early bonnet sitting over an standard engine but with the later type air filter box & a left hand side header cooling tank. Originally red check trim it now has the later blue check trim in it with a grey dash. The original steel wheels have been replaced by a set of alloys but these are the rare 77 alloys so quite possibly fitted at Canley. It is unclear if the later trim & the engine bay equipment were fitted at Canley but the current owner was told that the car had always been like this since it was sold from BL.

Sold from BL - that is a story in itself. The owner has a copy of the old V5 showing the car registered to BL at Canley & then the current V5 shows the previous owner having bought the car in February 1979 (apparently at auction). It seems this was a mistake! Think about the dates - 4 months before the DHC goes on sale in the US & over a year before the car is on sale in the UK, and there is a RHD pre production version with trim that was not yet found on production cars in the hands of a private owner in the UK! Apparently the factory contacted the new owner several times to try to buy the car back [:)]

Had a great time despite the weather. Boy, was I cold in that tent
Saturday night (must be the Northern air)[:D]

It was a shame some of you guys couldn't make it because of the weather. [:(] At least I got to meet Neil and see his fantastic looking drophead. I was also very taken with a persian aqua coupe on the Sunday display, who's owners name I've forgotten. Stunning car !!

The pre-production convertible was great to see. But sadly the owner didn't want to sell, depite my best efforts.

On a brighter note (excuse the pun) all the cars on display were just fantastic.

I was pleasantly surprised on just how many people were interested
in my ordinary little auto coupe. I was kept busy talking and answering questions, and one guy even asked if I would be interested in selling the car. I politely declined his offer of course.

Here are a few Pictures I've taken.

Hi Roy,

Great pictures, Michelle has taught you well and congratulation's on the trophy [8D]

Love the series one SD1, always had a soft spot for those, I guess spending the first 18 months of my apprenticeship working almost 100% on them is to blame for that !!

Fiat X19, rare car today, supprised it didnt dissolve in all that rain [xx(]

I noticed the roof on the pre - production convertible is a bit different to the production models. It doesn't have the built in gutters above the side windows, looks like they were relying on a bit of an overhang to shed the water.[:)]

The pre-production drophead is the car that appeared in all the pre-release press articles of the time - the sort of I-Spy shots that appear of forthcoming cars. It's just a shame the earlier car that belonged to TRDC member Alain Matthieu Pano doesn't seem to be around still. That car was totally original and obviously a Speke car with it's original interior (and rusty bits!).
