New member calling, Cheshire based 1990's Vauxhall enthusiast and new to TR7 ownership!
Just got a 1977 4 speed in a wonderful shade of brown and gold/beige and been for my first blast in it today. Have to say it was great fun and I'm looking forward to larking round in it.
Just had a quick scan of this forum and very impressed.

And we have the biggest annual TR7/8 gathering in the world coming up at Billing Aquadrome near Northampton the last weekend of this month. It will be great to see the car there.

And whatever anyone tells you - DON'T CHANGE THE GEARBOX TO A FIVE SPEED! There are hardly any four speeders left so they're the rare ones. Contrary to what you will probably be told, when these four speeders are properly sorted there are no problems.

I will keep the 4 speed and overdrive in ACG 97 because its been in it since almost new. It was one of the Coombs conversions. I do however much prefer the 5 speed but have only ever once converted a 4 speed to 5, on the Coke car. That was to make it a more usable daily driver. Wouldnt do it again.

Absolutely not changing it to 5 speed, I'd wanted a 4 speeder anyhow and I still remember years back everyone changing them to 5 gears.
I'd love to go Tatton, used to go a few years back but I doubt I'll make it unfortunately.

I usually organise an area at Cholmondely(sp?) Castle in Cheshire for a few different cars, this year was about the 6th year on the bounce I think and we had 25 cars there of all different types. I don't know if any of the people from this forum have been before but it's always a brilliant show with a massive array of cars. If you've been this year you probably wouldn't have been able to miss us as we had two FSOs, a Mondeo Mk1, an early Corsa (me, sorry!)a Peugeot 604, VW camper, Escort Mk3, Citroen DS estate and countless others too.

I live in Chester by the way, hopefully there's some others on here nearby and I'd love to get to a show somewhere to meet up with fellow 7 owners. Mine is far from immaculate it has to be said but whilst it's capable of being used daily I'm not going to lose any sleep over it!

Interesting opinions. I'll have to bear this in mind when my engine is screaming at 50mph with the four speed. Luckily the roads around here are small and 50mph max speed limit. I like the 4 speed box as it's sweet to use but the 5 speed is far more practical in my opinion.

I decided to keep the 4 speed in my FHC, it seems a shame for the 4 speed box & back axle to become extinct.

I have just managed to change the diff pinion oil seal, the original leather one had completetly perished and the oil leaking from it has stopped the fuel tank going rotten (excellent spray pattern)[:)]

I think you'll find the engine only tends to scream if it's still completely standard. If you have a tubular exhaust manifold and sports exhaust it's a completely different sound. Mine used to get fussy at 70mph and then smoothed out at 80mph. Nowadays with everything souped-up the engine sounds lovely at all times. And having a properly rebuilt differential sorts the back end out.
