Rear Fog Lamps & MOT

Postby bazzam111 » 21 Apr 2012 13:18

Noobie here - so be gentle[:)]
I finally took the plunge and bought an '82 Y reg TR7 V8 (and loving it!!)
it came with an MOT but I have since noticed that it has no rear (or front) fog lamps fitted despite having a switch on the dash.
MOT coming up at the end of the month and just wondering whether it will pass or not because of no rear fogs being fitted?

It will need one, I had the same issue, the wire was at the back drivers side so it was a simple job.

I quote:

"The inspection of rear fog lamps is confined to the one rear fog lamp which is required to be fitted to the centre or offside of vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980."

You must also have a "tell tale" lamp in the dashboard area or switch to tell you that the fog lamp is on.

You do not need front fog lamps on a vehicle this age.

As mentioned, the wiring is there, look for a (I think) blue/purple wire at the back of the boot, should go through a rubber grommet in the boot floor - that is the live, the lamp earths through the chassis.

Great responses and many thanks.
The mystery deepens, I could not find any 'loose wires' in the boot or underneath so did as suggested and searched the forum for fog lamps and did some homework.
Back out to the car and it looks like the previous owner has done a mod and wired the fogs in to the light cluster.
The normal tail light bulb is a dual filament (stop/tail) and the red wire with blue stripe is wired in to it as well. Brake lights are on the inboard and separate.
So I think the switch on the dash may be a bit dicky, bit too dark now but will have the panel out tomorrow and clean the switch.
Again, many thanks!!
