I know the subject has come up a thousand times but with the big name tyre companys dropping certain sizes all the time tyres are getting hard to come by
Apparantly goodyear dropped 185 70 13s about 7 years ago and pirreli and mitchelin dont make them any more this is what i am getting told any way I cant even find dunlop I am having the same trouble finding the same makes with a 175 width as well.
I am just after a retro name mainly for the white one but I dont want to driving on old rubber
So what are you guys riding on.......

For the DHC I have a set of original alloys with Continental ContiEcoContact3.

Also have a set of banded steel wheels with sticky road legal Yokohama A-021R [:)]

Both of course 185/70R13.

I have Falken ZIEX ZE-912 all round.

did run Falken 512 also a good tyre bit don't think you can get them now

In saying that I'm not sure you can get the Falken in the sizes you want.

Hi Gaz we had the same problem a couple of years ago trying to find tyres for our 7 we could not get 185s anywhere no matter what make and had to settle with 175s, can't remember what make they are,the car is in father-in-laws garage,so can't nip out and have a look.

I can get no brand tyres in the sizes i want even yokohamas in the 175 i just fancy a retro name on purely based on looks,
a lot of the tyres in our size are trailer tyres

Do keep an eye on what you are getting from the tyre shop, some of the "NEW" tyres they are selling you, may be older than your car.

Last week I fitted new rear tyres to the Honda S2000. The old ones had done only 4500Km, but although fitted only 3 years ago, were 7 years old. They were 4 years old when they were fitted at $250 each.

The front tyres on it were fitted just before I bought the car last March, & had done less than a thousand Kilometers, but were just over 3 years old when fitted. They cost $280 each, a lot of money for tyres that should be replaced in less than 2 years.

I got the last 2 Bridgestone 205 13s in Oz on the back of the 7 a couple of years back. They were a couple of years old then, so getting close to replacement time for them. I am told that the best tyres in Oz for 13" wheels today are Korean Kumho, so I guess the 7 is going to grow slanty eyes in the near future.

Like you my TR had the original Goodyears on when I bought it 3 years ago, the sides were cracked as expected - searched for weeks & finally went for below route.Speed rating was not a problem but check with Insurance co. as they specify the same rating as original & cancels insurance ( get out clause to stop paying out .
I told mine I don't drive at 100 mph plus you can't get the Goodyears now - thye were happy & put it on record.

At least you see the tread pattern if nothing else on line

I eventually went through BlackCircles.com - got them cheaper & they sent them to National to fit including valve & balance.
Went for Continentals myself.

Since I don't do many miles a year - premium brand is not an issue - after 5-6 year would be thinking of changing them again due to age.
Saying that I use the original Good Year's to store the car on during the winter & keep the Conts.in the shed on another set of wheels.

I have used Blackcircles now for a few years and got the apprentice's at work to fit them.Although you can arrange to have them fitted localy, see there site. Found them to be cheaper than most and although they dont list 175 they do 185's

I have Kumho's on all my cars. The Spiders tires cost me $60 each including mounting, balancing and they put in new chrome valve stems in the alloys for that price.

Tires have a code number (in an oval) on the sidewalls. The first two numbers are the week of the year and the last two are the year of manufacture. Brand new tires out of the warehouse can be over seven years old (as found by consumer advocate TV show) which are over the "good till" date but there are many tires that are older on the road. The TV show investigating tire blow outs at highway speeds found all the tires were over seven years old.

I have the Kumho Power Star's and have been very pleased with them, but I'm not sure they are available any more. They don't list them on Kumho's web site and the bigger internet suppliers call them "unavailable". They may have two updated models the Eco Solus HM and the Solus KR21 available in the right size. Both are about twice the price of the Power Star model.

Mine were made in mid 2008 and bought in mid 2010, so they were in the warehouse for two years.

Steve, how do you rate these tyres on the TR7? I am looking at fitting a set on my my new 14" minilites. All the reviews I've read seem quite favourable.

Hi Andy,

I've had 195 60 14 Falken 912's on my V8 for a couple of years and they're grippy, predictable and pretty comfortable.

By comparison, my Toyo T1R 50 series on 15" wheels are good but give a harsh ride and break away quickly. They also make the steering heavy at low speeds.(Might be something to do with the offset?)
