I think your eye witness deserves a nice gift for the assistance she gave you......at least now you can fight properly with your insurance knowing htat they are not holding you responsible ! Word to the wise, don't back down with them, keep a firm hold on your rights!!

On the bright side even though you (not just the car) got banged up, at least nobody was seriously injured........

Thanks for all the support and suggestions everyone! The underside damage so far is a lot less than expected. I still had rubber in the body side of the trailing arm mount and that may have helped me out a lot with damage prevention. The trailing arm is only slightly bent and the mount appears to be fine. We have compared it to another TR8 as well as ROM drawings etc... One of the front sway bar mounts was ground down pretty well but still serviceable. It will be relaced though. The drivers side wheels did absorb a lot of impact and they are trashed, the front tire flatted when it hit the curb and then the wheel itself was drug up over the crub. The rear tire hit a broken area of the curb, that broke the bead on the rear tire and allowed the car to tilt up and over the curb. So the curb strike was alkmost more of a glancing blow. The rear wheel is actually serviceable, but badly scuffed. It is still being replaced. Other than the bent steering arm up front, we can't find any other damage. Everything is still the right shape and no other bends or breaks. My body man hasn't looked at it yet so I don't know how bad that part will be. I am busy establishing the value of the car right now to fight those first settlement offers. There is also a personal injury case started as it has caused some injuires to my back and neck.

I just had a look at the Triumph USA DVD to see your car on that. I don't think we actually met while I was at the VTR but yours was only one of two fixed heads there all week so you have a real rarity and you have therefore got to get it fixed!!!

These cars are amazingly strong and it's just as well you weren't in something modern as I expect you would have had a complete write-off on your hands.

Hi John, No we didn't actually meet. You were busy interviewing people most of the time but I did see you videotaping me leaving the car show. [8D] Been meaning to get one of those DVD's to see if I made the cut! I have every intention of repairing the car and getting it back on the road.

Good you are ok.

The car certainly looks repairable to me. I'd check the rear end for straightness when it's out. Those axle tubes are not too well fastened to the center section. I'd probably check the axle for being straight and change the axle bearing also. If any of the rear end is bent, I'd pull the cover and check the shaft that holds the spider gears. I'd change the lower strut also. I'd also check the K member bolts and make sure they are not bent. The quarter panel and rear wheel arch change out pretty easy. If it needs to go on a frame machine, with the laser beams and everything else they use now, you'll have a straighter car than when it left the factory. But, I kind of doubt you have much damage underneath. If you need any parts you don't have, check with me. Good luck.

If that is an original antenna, that might be the hardest part to find.

UPDATE:

Didn't even have to argue the value point with the insurance adjusters. They are agreeing to repair instead of scrap. So the car is on it's way to getting repaired.

I am on the mend as well. X-rays reveal no broken bones or hairline fractures. Some displaced vertabrae, which I didn't need x-rays to tell me. Under going supervised treatment and getting better, slowly and steadily.
