Have you seen my car in Any Classic Car Magazine ?

This is a long shot - I am looking for an 'For Sale Advert' for my TR7 DHC in 1999 when it was for sale with Duncan Hamilton in Hampshire.

I saw the advert somewhere between July 1999 – March 2000 in a Classic Car Magazine when I was too poor & had a small family but always remember it, as it was for sale with 159 miles on the clock.

Contacted Duncan Hamilton but they have no records she said, of the car but I have bills on their Headed notepaper detailing various work done prior to them selling it for it's first MOT - the dates match up on both
It was Serviced on 17.08.99 at 158 miles then registered to next owner on 25.03.00 so looking for the magazine between that date it appeared in.

That owner & the next one are no longer at the address I have so calling out to the TR Owners.
Again it appeared on E-Bay a few years later from a search on Club Triumph Forum but the link would not open as it has been deleted of E-Bay as it was too old ( not in June 2009 when I bought it off a guy selling it on e-bay ) - info on that would be good too.

So during the long cold winter nights & you are reading any old car magazine - remember the below type advert & see if a TR7 pops out.

I have been looking for any Mags in the date range when at car shows - it could have been in Classic & Sports Car or Throughbred & Classic ( was it still being published then ? )or some other.

Have bought a few C&SC mags Oct 99 & Jan 00 but not in them - the search case continues.

Adds to the day out & an excuse to read the old stories.

My brothers got every copy of Practical Classics since the mid 80's, so if it's in there he'll have it. I'll talk to him over the weekend and see if he can have a look.[:)]

Just checked Practical Classics from that year and the seller doesn't appear. Probably more Classic & Sportscar mag.

Hi Paul & Andy,
Think Practical Classics at that time was the poor mans magazine - the stock Duncan Hamalton had, being an ex Racing Driver, he went for the higher end of the market - think he only had my TR as it was delivery mileage & a healthy profit could be seen at the end.

Thanks for looking through the PC Mags - thanks for the effort & Andy thanks for asking your brother. - the hunt continues [:D]

Nearly choked on my coffee when I opened up the Forum - really I am absolutely shocked that after only 17 hrs I had so many offers to look at various mags & can't thank Lancsman enough for finding the advert - will try & find where the bloody 19 miles extra had gone - what a cost it was advertised for.
Have now tracked down a copy of the Magazine to go in the cars history file.

Right next challenge (not asking much but I know you chaps like achallenge [:p]) before we call off the dogs - where is the next advert in chain of events - 3rd Owner as below, bought the car between 25.03.00 - 08.08.01 so the chap who bought her for Duncan Hamilton only kept her for about a 2 years with approx 347 miles on the clock when he sold it.
This was from I think Oakfields in Hook Hampshire just down the road where he bought the car from Hamiltons.
Know there was an advert for this sale June - Aug 2001 at Oakfields when it had 347 miles on the clock.

Under Bonnet has been cleaned up by me to remove the underseal - was still on when I bought it but wanted to see what was hiding underneath.

Then finally around July 2004 he sold it this time with approx 2000 miles I believe via E-Bay with approx 2000 miles to the guy I bought it off 3 years ago with 6800 miles.

Thanks for your comment & think you are near Southampton - I'm up near York but don't usually venture out of Yorkshire much, although hoping to go across the border to Tatton Park in June but don't come down to the deep South, although as per the thread she did start down your way.

Sorry to be such an anorack, but it seems to be a Solihull car with the metal plate riveted above the nearside headlight, bottom l/h corner of engine bay photo. So what is on that plate on a Solihull car that isn't alraedy on the VIN plate? Regards

The plate is the Body No. which on my car is CHP 301233.
It has nothing to do with the VIN No. etc as it is totally differant.
There is no relation to the numbers on the VIN & Body No.
There was a debate previously on the forum to why each body had a number.

Yes I have a copy of the Practical Classics Magazine - the scan a few replies up is from the magazine when it was included in a test - it had 600 miles on the clock then & was used to show what a new TR7 would have been like.
Think today it would be a more realistic comparison as it has new tyres on it now ( I bought the car with the originals still on & use them still to store the car on in winter )plus last summer I completely renewed front & rear suspension, bushes, ball joints, shocks,trailing arms, anti roll bushes, stuts legs, steering & subframe bushes / bolts.
It drives very tight now & goes round corners straight rather than a whallowing pig.

I have made contact with Oakfields in Hook Hampshire & the Saleman said he will look through his summer 2001 records to see what he can find when they sold it with 347 miles on the clock.
