Clutch Installation Question????

Postby zekow1 » 14 Jan 2012 16:10

Hi Guys
Been gone for a while trying to make a living in this crazy world .

My engine has comeback from the machine shop .
I have pretty much finished assembling it.I am including pics.

After the many tries to buy the proper clutch kit I settled with RHINO

This is my first clutch installation,
1) I Followed the instruction and Wow !!!its half and inch to 3/4 inch from the pressure plate to the flywheel??
Is this normal???
By the time I have all the screws tighten, there is going to be lots of pressure.

2) One more thing.. Does the pressure plate fit only in one way?
or as long as the wholes align, its fine??

Makes me want to pull my engine and clean/paint it properly! But Yellow TCT first.[:p]

That's next job after I get final approval on electrical permit, after I get utility room done so I can move freezer in it.[;)]

I'm planning on using a Beck Arnley as that's what local parts store quoted on. Hope it's the right one.[:p]

First, what compressor set up do you have.

Second. The picture on the box looks right, but the pressure plate sitting on it looks wrong. Beans, what do you think?

My first thoughts too, friction plate should be in contact with the flywheel ...

As for the clutch cover, S&S sell a clutch kit from AP that looks exactly the same as the one in zekow's picture.
The "faulty" cover in my picture is a Borg & Beck item.

Clay I Bought several kits from all the major sellers VB/Moss/ and the last one from one of our brothers on the site.
They all had the same type of design on the pressure plate .

That's quite confusing as Borg & Beck supplied the original clutches and were bought out by AP. Borg & Beck clutches were supplied in AP boxes (at least for a while). I ordered an AP clutch kit from Octogon Motors (a Moss dealer) and it fit/works perfectly. If I remember correctly there is an arrow or some indicator showing which side faces the flywheel.
