Door switches

Postby whitenviro » 06 Jan 2012 23:25

I am putting things back together after the paint job and have a question about the door switches. On the passenger side (right) there is one push switch with a single wire to it. Everything is o.k. on that side. On the driver's side (left) there are two switches, one with two wires and another with a single wire. The red push rod on the single-wire switch was broken off long ago, so it has been closed the entire time I've owned the car - if it is working at all. I haven't had any problems with battery drain, so it must not matter too much. I've never paid much attention to whether or not the door lights worked.

The single wire ones are just grounds for the door lights. I looked at JClays 1980 wiring diagram and see all three switches, but I still don't know what the two-wire switch is for. Does it break the circuit for the key switch if the door is open?

Why are there two switches on the driver side?
What is the the two-wire switch supposed to do?
and
Does anyone have a spare single-wire switch to sell?

One is for the door light, the other causes the buzzer to go off if you open the door with the key in the ignition.

A two wire switch with a Black/Brown wire and a Black/Green wire goes to the buzzer.

If the other switches have Purple/White wires, they go to the door lights. The wiring diagram shows a black wire going to ground, but it may be self grounding to the body with just one wire.
