Fixed Head TR7's

Is it just me or have they just about disappeared recently ?

Being a pensioner with time on my hands (= bored) , I find myself scouring the web for TR's for sale etc. Recently fhc have become a rare sighting and I would say the later built ones are even rarer.

Is there anyway of finding the ratio/numbers of FHC / DHC in the club ?

Uhhh, Ruddy, sweetie, this isn't a club. It's more of a society or a community. Or, think of it this way. TriumphTR7.com is akin to everyone living in the same apartment complex and driving the same make of car.

Hi Mildred, I guess that question was towards Jim J or Chris T , wondered if they could find figures from the TR Drivers club, on the clubs website page there is a button that says 'forum' , it brings you directly to this site so one could presume this site is linked to that club [?]. I have also noticed that when the club magazine arrives most people pass comment on here again backing up the club link.

Am I wrong and does the club have another forum.

Whichever way I'm still interested in FHC numbers.

Paul, not sure about the ratio of FHC to DHC but I have only one convertible and six fixed heads, my son Robert has no convertibles and two FHCs.I think there is probably a mix of 50/50.
This site is linked to the club because Jason Human who founded the this forum is a long time TR Drivers club member.
Why not ask members to say which body style they own.

Out of all the TR7's I know of in the Pacific Northwest (that includes car shows on Vancouver Island, Vancouver, Portland and the Tri State/Province ATDI) I only know of three. Cales, Rich's (now owned by Duncan) and a red one (4 speed)that came to the Island via eBay and I missed for $600 by a week or two. It went back to original seller because the guy who bought it didn't want to do the last bit of detailing to it, It had new paint job, alloys, interior. It was resold I assume but I lost track of it. The fourth car that belonged to Launie (of this forum) went back to the auto wreckers as he thought it too much work and went to Fiat 124's. His white 124 DHC has the same L-jetronic FI as my Spider.

That's not many coupes with a ratio of 1 in 12 cars. That doesn't include the many DHC's I've seen or know of that aren't on the road.

When the convertibles were introduced, convertible sales outstripped the sales of the fixed head (I'm not sure to what degree but something in the region of 5:1 rings a bell) Also loosely speaking the convertible achieved old car desirability first, so a hard top would be more likely to have been scrapped. I would suspect many hard tops would have been scrapped to provide parts for convertibles. It seems that it is only relatively recently that people have realized that the hard top, particularly the later models with the full length sun roof and more obvious styling are quite nice places to be. supercass

I've got one, dismantled 2 in the early 90's and sent them to the scrap heap (too rusty, although I know theres a few on here that would disagree), and have recently seen 2 come up at the scrap yards for parts. Tried to save one of those recent ones but wasn't able to due to salvage/title laws.

Well 3 Speke coupes here. I have owned convertibles (3) but can't seem to leave the coupes alone! If I were buying again, next time I think I'd go for a UK TR8 DHC.

That said we were talking the other day about making an estate or a stretch FHC in Jaavvva green! I've also always wanted to create a TR7 as originally drawn by Harris Man (not the yellow one, the one with the boxed arches) ...all FHC.

As far as I am aware, we only ever got the FHC here down under. I thought that was odd given that our climate is probably more conducive to open top driving than in the UK at least in Sydney and North from there. (I'm from Melbourne and a convertible here would be frustrating as we are 4 seaons in an hour)

Now its a rare sight to a see a 7 on the road at all. Many of the club members who do have them run DHCs that have been imported, some from the US and converted to right hand drive.
