Paint!

Postby whitenviro » 06 Dec 2011 18:23

The 7 is still in recovery from being sideswiped, but getting closer. Pics from the shop yesterday as it gets ready for paint (hopefully tomorrow and Thursday).

They will be doing all of the cutouts and margins, then remount the doors and panels before the final spray.

Meanwhile, all of the bits and pieces go home for cleanup, then I get to put it all back together again.

This shop came highly recommended and they do seem to be doing a good job. The 7 has been in good company, as some other beautiful classics have come and gone in the time they have been working on it. There was a little 1963 MG next to it the other day, a nice 68 Firebird the day I took these pics, even a VW Westfalia stripped to bare metal for a complete rebuild (I have a long history of love/hate relationships with those).

Its taking a long time because they offered to do it as a spare time project as a way to keep the costs down. I couldn't say no to that! With the weather around here it would mostly be just sitting in my garage anyway.

Indeed looks quite nice as it is at the moment [;)]

I would recommend you disconnect one side of the gas struts from the bootlid's hinges.
They'll disappear inside the boot that way, making it easier to prevent spray mist inside the boot.

And I would also remove the door strikers ...

Picky, picky picky, Beans!

Actually, you can't see it from the pics, but they removed the strikers and took out the rubber gasket then put a little spacer behind them and put the strikes back on. That way they get some paint under it, but won't lose the striker down inside the body(I was told). The upper catch did not get the same treatment but came out alright anyway, no visible lines around them.

She is one sweet shiny girl now!:

He was still doing clear coat on the bonnet and boot lid when I stopped in:

It has one little run in the clear coat near the rear side marker light. They will be redoing that, then mount the decks and bumpers, then I bring it home! I should have the rest of it together by spring.

Very nice. As one who has lost a striker down inside the body when I had my paint done, it isn't much fun. Eventually, I was able to fish the thing out with a coat hanger and a lot of patience.

Clever when you don't want to remove the interior trim,
otherwise the inside of the B-post is accessible to remove them completely.

Ohh ... b.t.w. the car looks very nice indeed, very striking colour [8D]
