Power Antenna?

Is this for real?

Did any TR7s have a power retractable antenna? Mine certainly isn't and I don't see anything about them in the shop manuals. Just one more electrical thing that can screw up?

I believe that the cars shipped without radios when new. There is a power wire in the stock harness for a power antenna so I expect that either manual or power were available from the dealers.

Most of the 7's that I have seen have power antennas but some may have been retro fitted.

I just looked at a scematic for a 1980/81 TR8 EFI and it has a power antenna marked.

My car had what appeared to be a factory fitted electric antenna.
I hate 'em, damned things never work and this one was no exception.
My car now sports a rakish roof mounted job, set to the same angle as the windscreen. It's from a late model Ford Transit van I believe.

Mine was original and worked off the radio. When I upgraded the sound system, the antenna stopped working. I rewired the unit and install a switch on the heater cover.

As far as I am aware late U.K models were fitted with pre audio equipment that included a manual ariel and door speakers only. supercass

Mine has a power antenna which looks original. I was amazed when I fitted a radio and it actually worked! Stll does after 4-5 years. All my Saabs have them and I have only had a problem when the toothed tail broke on one and I had to replace the mast (and the one which I broke the mast off in the bushes).

Replaced mine. Worked fine till they installed the new Battery cable and I have no idea what they did yet

I'm very fine with the fact that mine has a manual antenna .....

(and am the opposite of the Americans on the site...I can not recall ever having seen / noticed a "north of the border" wedge with an electric antenna, neither of my cars had one .....)

Being the fact that I almost always have the iPod connected the antenna is down. But if I want to listen to the radio up it comes.
I think it is a cleaner look down.
So I Like the electric ones.
Plus it makes it easier at the car wash [;)]

My UK spec TR8 dhc had one, never gave any trouble.

Well I have one on the 8. I don't know about the car wash, but it sure makes it easier to pull a car cover over the thing in the carport, or a dust sheet in the shed.

We have a problem with eucalyptus oil on our cars. It comes of the gum trees in even light winds, & settles on cars. There it grows a mildew that penetrates paint, & is almost impossible to polish out.

I have to undo & lower the 7s stock aerial, & unscrew & remove the Capri's aerial to put a cover over them.

I quite like the 8s power unit.

I have a solution to your eucalyptus problem. When I was on the farm the previous owner had planted heaps of gum trees along the drive and all round the house. With the aid of a Land Rover, an International Tractor a length of snigging chain and a chain saw. I eliminated the source of the eucalyptus oil! [:D]
That place was in a real bad bushfire zone, the last thing you'd need there is bloody gum trees within cooee of the house and out buildings.

I have the original non electric antennae (and radio as Spiders came standard with them and necessary for our special collector plates and insurance rates). Never put it up or down (sticks up on first segment). Rarely put radio on (just listen to the sound of exhaust and enjoying driving). Guess I'm one of the last sports car driving purists.[:p]
