A little story...

Postby paulheritage » 10 Nov 2011 01:21

Bear with me, you'll see where this is going.

I purchased a 1977 TR7 FHC V8 (heavily modified, but incomplete) back in March 2011 from a guy in North Yorkshire, which he'd bought some years earlier in North Scotland as a standard TR7. I'm in the North East so the car is currently in Blyth, Northumberland.
I have history with the car that says it was sold new in Ipswich on 19/10/77 and then sold to people in Daventry & then Devon.

So basically this car has travelled across the country and ended up in Blyth, but I also thenbfound out that around 10 years ago it was owned by someone in Bedlington, Northumberland for a few years from 2000. This is only a few miles from my house and thought they would be interested to hear what happened after they sold it and it travelled around Scotland/Yorkshire and returned Ito their doorstep. I wrote a letter to the home address of the then owner but haven't heard anything back from them, even though i know the previous owner still lives at the same address (they are a local councillor).

I'm interested in learning more history, so should I write again, turn up one day on their doorstep and say hello, or just forget it?

I'm amazed that a car sold in Norfolk, went via so many places inc. near where I live, then via Scotland, Yorkshire and back.

Paul.... Another letter, a photograph and perhaps a SAE?
And the offer to 'Bring it Round' sometime?

Make it clear that you're not chasing a Warranty Claim!

I can relate to this.

The short story as i'm typing this on my phone...

In January went to buy a series 2a land rover from Norfolk 235 miles from home (thats a long way from home when you live in th UK I'll have you Yanks know!)

Anyhow, I broke down 210 miles from home, ended up never seeing the car and decided it was an 'omen' or 'fate', so apologised to the bloke and said I wouldn't be returning (it was just an advert I responded to not an auction, so no commitment).

So role the clock forward to a fortnight ago. Whilst dropping my daughter off at her friends in Redcar, 3 miles from home, I just happened to look down a drive, and there at the bottom was a 2a facing me. I thought, that registration number looks familiar. I went home and checked the photos of the Norfolk 2a.

Yep. Same bloody car.

When I knock on the guys door (im compelled to), I really do hope he tells me its a complete dog and he should never have bought it!
