Too loud!!

Postby claypole1360 » 28 Oct 2011 21:31

Hi,
i have a twin box system on my V8 which makes the car sound like a Nascar throwback, beautiful, beautiful and spine tinglingly gorgeous as it is, it will never pass a sound test for a hillclimb or a sprint.
I know I need to put a single outlet rally car style box on the back but how much of the existing system do I need to bin? If I got my local exhaust shop to manufacture a box to put in the middle of the system, would this be massively restrictive?
How should I go about this?
Calvin

What's that coming over the hill? Is it a monster?

Steve Thomas can attest that even the single big bore rally exhaust is too loud for certain tracks and it too requires a middle muffler of some form.

Yes. The last noise test I had recorded 95 db if I remember correctly. That is two thirds revs for 5 seconds with the noise recorder held 1 metre from the tailpipe, again if I remember correctly. I've got a couple pix somewhere I'll see if I can post.

In Sprinting, the noise test is half a metre and at 45 degrees to the pipes and at 2/3rds revs. My Bond has anything between 93 and 98dbs so has never failed a noise test. (It measured over 100dbs once, but just about everyone did as they were measuring next to a metal storage container????)
I might keep the existing system and put a silencer in, but how much difference would an empty muffler in the system make to the noise overall?
