Anyone have a Jaguar IRS write up?

Postby ignitionmodule » 25 Oct 2011 17:41

I'm looking at converting a TR7 over to a chevy LS engine and possibly the Jag IRS unit that I have past experience with.
Can anyone point me to an IRS write up? So far the one link I found is a dead end.

Hi,

[:)] WELCOME TO THE BEST TR7 FORUM IN THE WORLD EVER [8D]

Cant say i have ever seen a Jag I.R.S. under the back of a TR7, would require a fair amount of fabrication to say the least.

What part of the world are you? I am sure the guys over at The Wedge Shop can supply a Ford 8" to fit or the rally cars used a Salisbury 4HA axle, basicaly the Dana 44 axle ( Mopar )also found in some early Reliant Scimitars or Jags / Daimlers

Cheers John

Martin has the exact link I was thinking of. It is the only one I ever remember seeing and I believe that guy said he was giving up to work on a Porsche project.

From memory I think his plans were bouncing between Mazda rotary and LS power.

There is a local TR7 V8 with a Jag rear end . I have a few bad pictures of it and have seen a write up...just can't find it right now. Belongs to Peter Rofner. Here is a picture

I'm in the US. The Jag IRS does a lot of duty over here in hot rods. No real shortage of them and they come with their own sub frame. It seems to solve the hand brake and positraction issue, plus some decent rear disc brakes. The only thing I never really liked about it was threading the exhaust through.

This is perfect - thanks. I can't believe I might get away without having to cut axles and links...

The version of the Jag rear end you want is the one from a 1960's S type or 420. This one has a 54" track width with the XJ6 and MkX being about 58" I think.. well according to the friend i called.

This specific rear end is used by the Cobra kit car guys so they may be very hard to find.

There are lots of MGB and mustang Jag IRS conversions written up, and the occasional TR7 one as well:

And here is a list of specs on various JAG IRS by model year:
