Need a new car for my old wheels!

Postby Steve-LPS-Thomas » 12 Oct 2011 18:14

I bought these Wolfrace Turbo Alloy wheels brand new in 1980. I used my girlfriend's (at the time) credit card to order them mailorder. They still have her surname written on inside with permanent marker pen!

I let them go in 1995 and now I have just got them back..(long story). I just love period accessories and am very happy to be reunited with these wheels. Thing is I don't exactly have a car to put them on.

They are going to need refurb anyway and I'm wondering if it would be criminally insane to finish them in white and put them on Vicki (BRG USA Victory Edition).

Am I barking mad or should I just mothball them for the forseeable future?

Steve

by far one of the nicest sets of wheel i have ever seen on a TR7

I have even seen them on a transit van and they still looked great

as far as white goes not so sure...but they do look good on VW golfs in white I just can't imagine them on a TR7 in white

how about polished and the inner most edge painted green to match vicki proper old school style

either way sweet sweet wheels............

I think the white would look good, like a rally car wheel. If not they can always be stripped. Or painted black for that badass look!

Sorry, not a fan of black wheels.. the VE is supposed to have white wheels, this is how she looks now. (just realised how high she sits, nice ride though.)

Hi Steve,

I think they will look great on Vicky, you always paint one and try that on her and see. With you on peroid accessories they always look the best.

Cheers John

I have a set of similar wheels on the 7. See my photos. They were anodised a dull gold. I really like the design, as it's in keeping with the cars era. They were a bit battered when I found them.

After cleaning them up I painted them in a similar dull gold, then sanded all the outward facing surfaces, which I polish with metal polish. This gives a dull gold between the spokes, & a nice glint when moving.

I reckon that would work on those wheels.

You're right, Vicky should have white wheels. From memory the spokers had less spokes than your current ones. I would spray the alloy's white and put them on. It might be a stroke of genius. Won't cost much to try it. Post pictures so we can see. If it looks good you could have them powder coated.
